The trac light is the traction control, the abs light means the antilock brake system is not functioning properly. the trac control is no issue. the abs will not cause the brakes to fail but they will lock instead of pulsing.

I asked the mechanic when I got the new tires put on and he said this could be 'fixed' by repacking the bearings. This is plausible if one or more are dragging and causing the sensors to detect too much variation in the speeds.
Since the new tires have been on, only a few errors and not any lately even with a sharp turn. The temperature seems to have an effect.
i will ask more mechanics in the next few weeks and report.

Sounds like you have a bad wheel speed sensor. You need to have it scanned. Since it's been sitting, it might just be a bad connection to one of the speed sensors.
