I have a 2006 Cobalt, it was running great and when i got home i parked it in the garage went in came back an hour later and it wont start. It has about 60,000 miles and I am thinking it is something to do with the fuel filter or pump. Is it common for the fuel pump to go out that early? And where is the filter located?
My 2006 was working fine, the I did not use the car for 2 weeks and now it will not start. The lights come on the dash but the engine will not turn over. Do you think the gas is frozen?

Has happened to me twice now...when it got really cold overnight it wouldn't start in the morning. After the temperature rose during the day it started right up. The battery was fine and all the lights came on and radio so i don't think it was the battery. I have roughly the same problem. The car tends to die when it is really cold outside. Got everything tested and apparently the battery is holding a charge, and the load test passed. All the electrical systems checked out. However once it gets really cold, you go to turn it on and all that happens is a few clicks. Any suggestions?

It would probably help to get the car on a scan tool with live data readouts to see what is happening when the car is not starting. Also a spark tester and fuel pressure gauge could help diagnose whats happening or not happening when the car wont start.
The light being on has probably put the car in "limp in" mode. Its a kind of fail safe system to allow car to be driven to a shop for repairs. You need to have the code or codes read by scanning the engine computer, repair the problem, erase the codes, and then you should be able to drive it again normally.
There can be a couple things, nutral saftey switch, AC DELCO, NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH Direct Replacement Part For OE Number 24219476 `$68.67 , ignition switch not adjusted correctly, try jumping the starter at the starter to see if the starter is working, of course I have just fixed a car that the guy didn't have the shifter in park, try these things and get back to me
My first guess would be the fuel pump is going bad. Sometimes jarring it a bit will make it work again and the tow may have done it. If it does this again have someone bang on the bottom of the gas tank while cranking, if that cures it then you'll know for sure.
Double check to make sure you pressed all of the fuses all the way in. Did the same thing on my 06 Cobalt and it took me about an hour to figure that one out. : )
Also, make sure they are all in the right spots. (especially your ignition fuse)
Battery is dead... get a volt meter, jump the car and with the car running on its own power check the voltage, anything less than 12v could point to an alternator but a new battery is a better place to start. put it to you this way if the car shuts off while driving, then its your alt, and if its fine wen drivin but wont start back up... its all battery
Try pushing in the key while turning the wheel either way. And jiggling it. This happens because the steering locks for the car's protection. If we park it with the wheels turned, it locks in that position. If that does not work, you may have to call a good mechanic to help you.
yes everything electrical works and the battery is strong
