My key get stuck in acc position in ignition in 2004 chevy malibu. It won't move to all the way to the off no matter how many times i tried although I am able to start the car and and take the key out of th ignition. since the car is in acc mode, my battery will be dead next morning and had to ask my friend to jump it. It is very frustrating. Being a student, even do not have a lot of money to fix it unless it is cheap or some easy self to do tricks. I will appreciate any help

More than likely it is the cable that goes from the switch(KEY) to the shifter. remove the console and disconnect the cable.
push the cable all the way in towards the switch.
you may have to unplug the cylinder that is in the console.(the wires on mine were cut by the previous owner).

Try putting car in nuetral and trying to turn it back. Maybe its just not working correctly in park. Remember to put on the parking brake if it works

2008 Chevy Malibu LT 2.4 Cluster Gauges Not Working

Make sure your ignition switch is working first (does everything light up and working with the key in "ON" position) then try ACC position, does the radio work? If all that checks out then it would be the stepper motors on the instrument cluster are bad, there are several repair kits available pretty cheap since they are a common problem

2001 Chevy Malibu- Key will not turn ignition to OFF. It will turn to start the car, but stops on ACC when attempting to turn off forcing me to disconnect the battery so it wont die.

I had the same problem with my 2001 malibu. I found that there is a cable that goes from the key switch to the shifter. and I disconnected the cable at the shifter, and I no longer have the key getting stuck on acc. you may need to push the cable (inner part) towards the switch.
if you pull the cable out just a little you won't be able to get the key to go all the way to the OFF position.
also there is a cylinder as you can see in the pictures, mine has had the wires cut( by the previous owner) you may need to unplug yours. I'm not sure. before you put the console back together try to start the car and put it in gear.

I have a 1999 Chevy Malibu LS. Occasionally when I turn the key to the off position the engine will shut down but the ignition switch appears to be in the acc. mode what causes this?

key switch could be bad.next time with the car running, keep pressure on key as if you were trying to pull it out and turn to the off position slowly, this will let you know if it is going past the lock position when you are shutting car off.The keys should come out just as you come to the off position, if they come out any earlier, the switch is bad.

My 01 chevy malibu theft deterrent light is on and my car wont start or let me get my key out of the ignition what can i do?

turn the key to the "acc" position. you will notice the theft light flashing. leave the key in this position for exactly 10 minutes. the light should stop flashing. turn the key back to the off position and then start the car as you normally would. Works every time!

Ignition is stuck in run position

does your key stays in the ignition position? or can you turn it back to acc or lock? it might be a stuck ignition switch mechanism inside or a shorted circuit that latches the ignition...have it checked or you can try to open it the switch yourself..but with caution if this is your first time. Pls give me a feedback. thanks!

Ignition and Transmisssion Locked on 2000 Chevy Malibu

On this car there is a cable that is tied into the shifter, so you have to turn the keep to be able to take it out of gear. Its all in 1 big housing. Usually to remove the ignition cylinder it has to be in the run position and you push a little key down to remove it. Since your key won't turn you have to figure out a way to do it.However once you replace the ignition cylinder your shifter will move and you will be able to start the car. To get to the ignition switch/cylinder you have to remove the molding around the instrument panel and then the instrument cluster. Then you can unbolt the assembly in the front with a 10mm socket. lift the assembly up and now you have access to change it out. Hope this helps.
