Gear change vibration

Hi

When going at low speeds, gears change ok from 1, 2 and 3. However there is a slight vibration between 2nd and 3rd ... as if the car can't decide which gear to change to . This happens in traffic ( +_ 30 to 40 KM /h ). To alleviate this I have to press more aggressively on the eccelerator to stop the vibration . This forces the car to change to a lover gear with no vibration (result = higher fuel usage ). When I take off and drive to max permissible speed all gears select normally . No vibration .

Thanks for the help ..

Aubrey

These cars usually have a two piece drive shaft. There is a center bearing in the middle of the driveshaft for support and dampen vibration. It could also be the front rubber coupling where the transmission tailshaft and driveshaft meet. If both are fine try loosening the bolts on the rear transmission mount. Your mounts may be out of alignment allowing for unusual angles between the transmission and driveshaft. Good luck.

Sounds like a shift solenoid where the transmission control can not decide where to go

99 Saturn SL2 gears

Hello
You will need to have an experienced technical drive this before attempting any repairs, but my gut feeling is that you will need to rebuilt the transmission. That takes many special tools and a high degree of skill and training and is not something that really can be done at home with common hand tools.

When in 2nd Gear go to 3rd 4th and 5th with oot touching the accelerator car increases speed on every change

if its just a slight increase then thats a normal reaction the vehicle is already moving so the pull effect has been broken,, usually by the time your going into 3rd gear you already have the vehicle up to speed, ,, if its a big increase in speed, then you need to check for vacuum leaks, and or a stuck carb or throttle body flap thats not closing properly

Transmission problem in E230 Benz

What you need to check is the transmission release bearing because if there is a clearance on the release bearing you will encounter this problem and also check the transmission oil.
