98 audi a4 chugging/lose of power/engine cuts out? Everything was fine I went to turn on to a side street and all of a sudden the rpm dropped all the way down, the check engine light came on, and the car started chugging. The battery light then came on, the headlights flickered, and the car started shaking. There's gas in the car and i just had oil put in the car. I let the car sit for ten minutes and it started up fine with the engine light on and let me drive a quarter mile down the road until i went to turn on my street it cut off again. Also the pedal was responsive in neutral but in drive it was unresponsive and just chugged. Thank you in advance for any help.

Sounds like bad gas or fuel filter , good luck.

Sounds like a MAF(Mass air flow sensor, you can start by pulling it out, it's inside the intake box on this car. You can clean it with a high percentage isopropl alcohal or MAF cleaner, this sounds to be the problem, if it is really bad, you can unplug it temporarily, it will not have as much power but it will run better. If cleaning it doesn't fix it, then you will need to replace it, ensure not to touch the sensor itself at all.

Sounds like sudden electrical failure,likely causes are crank shaft position sensor or engine control relay failure both are common,could be bad earth connection

could be a brake light switch fault,be interested to know what they found.....vw specialist for 28 years, let me know what they find please

Could be low oil level indicator tha auto shuts of engine if oil goes low
