Lost the timing belt on 2004 aveo, has 64000 miles on it, bent all the valves(how come this isn't a noninterference motor?)can't find valves, chevy dealer has 5 need 16, no parts stores can get them, no rebuilder can get them, can't find a rebuilt head, so i bought a used engine from a salvage. Now here is my dilema, do i replace the head or whole engine? Bear in mind, i don't know if i can obtain gaskets yet.
Just go to any junk yard and find a used deawoo lanos and pull the head if timing belt was not broke, if it looks good, its a exact fit 100%, no special tools needed, just normal wrench set and torqe wrench. after head is installed, get a gates timing belt only.
You can find them on ebay.search AVEO INTAKE VALVES and AVEO EXHAUST VALVES...The name of the store is Allstate engine parts...Good Luck!!!!
Is it common to have so many destructive issues with the 04 Aveo whenever the timing belt breaks?
Most modern engines do this when the timing belt goes, the upside is that this is not an Audi but a simple Aveo. Parts are cheap and the job pretty simple relative to how complex cars are today. The solution is learn to have the timing belt changed every 30K-40K miles. It really isn't that horrible a job. If you are comfortable changing spark plugs, most can do it. what's more a complete timing belt kit can be had off Ebay for $60.

I had the same problem with my 04 aveo. Timing belt just snapped right before 60,000 but my dealership replaced everything at no cost. Said something about "factory warrenty"?? I have an extended warrenty, but maybe it is a common problem? ??
They just rebuild the head and it runs like new... now I am having transmission problems. Anyone know how much transmission fluid for the aveo costs?
125 bucks at the dealer
