Have a 2003 jeep liberty, 3.7L 6 cyl, had a misfire on spark plug #2 , replaced it, no codes appear, says passed. But still seem to sense a misfire, runs like there is a misfire, and when first starting idles rough and have heavy white smoke from tailpipe until I gain speed on interstate, also upon starting heavy smoke has a heavy fuel/ coolant (like antifreeze) smell. Oil and antifreeze are both good. Prior to replacing #2 spark plug code for evap system low came up but doesn't read that now!

Hello, sounds like you should get a compression test for the bank with number 2 cylinder. I am going by your statement about the Antifreeze smell. You could also do a fuel quality check and replace the fuel filter while doing this. Put the fuel in a glass jar and wait a day if necessary to see if the fuel separates. Bad fuel would also account for a rough idle and the smell.

The newer fuels we have today can separate and also attract water from the atmosphere. The Evap may have been a sign that the system was open to the atmosphere. Before doing major motor work, you may want to "smoke test" the Evap system. This requires a special machine some shops have.

I am curious to the condition of the old number 2 plug and if it looked corroded from the antifreeze. An alternative would be to remove the sparkplugs and crank the engine when it is cold from sitting overnight. Then observe if antifreeze or water was blown out the sparkplug holes.

I hope my solution is very helpful to you.

I have the p0306 code showing for my 2004 3.7 liter V6 Jeep Liberty. There is a loud knocking/popping associated with this misfire. I have changed all of the spark plugs and the ignition coil for...

but not one ASE mechanic i bet. they get it right.
so 306 means must misfire.
or better, weak Combustion on #6
so did your mech check compression on #6?
seems not. or vacuum for bouncing, seems not.
that knocking, did he check that first. it must NOT knock.
that knock is serious and will get worse, Id not drive it.
not me, engines are expensive why make it worse?

2006 dodge caravan, 6 cyl. relaced cole, sparkepugs and wires in oct. 2009. Engine is reading #2 cyl. misfire again. Why

Firts time swap spark plug & ignition coil between two different cylinders and read again if the same #2 cyl. misfires !
If #2 cyl. is OK and another cyl. misfires then spark plug or ignition coil is out of order and must be replaced.
If #2 cyl. misfires again then #2 injector must be checked !
If ignition coils & spark plugs (complete set for 6 cyl.) are replaced then you must check #2 injector !

Check Engine Light P0302 Code

p0302 is a cylinder #2 misfire. when they swiched the coils did the misfire follow the coil or did it stay on cyl.#2. if the problem stayed with #2 they need to pull the cylinder head and check the valves with known good valves. have them install it into the cylinder head with valve lapping compound and run a pattern. if the cylinder head comes out with a good pattern replace the valves with the new pieces and reassemble the motor. if not the vehicle will need a new cylinder head
