SOURCE: where is a knock sensor for 1998 Mercury Villager located?

  • The sensor is mounted in a fixed position in the engine block. The tip of the sensor protrudes into the crankcase at a distance of 0.05 plus or minus 0.02 inch from the crankshaft.
  • A crankshaft adjusting tool may be used to check these rings.
    • Place the tool on the pulley extension surface and rotate the tool around the pulley.
    • If any blade touches the tool, replace the pulley.
  • Inspect the trigger wheel behind the crankshaft pulley and the sensor for damage.
  • If the engine misfires all the time or on acceleration only, test the following components:
    • Engine compression.
    • Spark plugs.
    • Spark plug wires.
    • Ignition coils test for firing voltage with a test spark plug.
    • Crankshaft sensor.
    • Fuel injectors on multiport and sequential fuel injection systems.

SOURCE: Code reader knock sensor where is it located

According to the Haynes manual it is under the intake manifold, Upper and lower intake manifolds must be removed for access. If you go to Auto Zone, they have the sensor and can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the knock sensor with common tools. Good luck and hope this help.

SOURCE: lost remote to disable alarm on 2000 mercury

If you have the factory alarm system, you can put your key into either door and lock and unlock the door, that signals the computer to deativate the alarm. If you have an aftermarket alarm system installed, it will have to be removed and the wiring that the alarm ties into must be restored to factory design.

What are the Mercury Villager 1998,must comuns problems? I want an pverall must comon issues..

The most common problem effecting 1st generation Mercury Villagers (1993-1998) are engine related. Fuel pumps are prone to failure so make sure you change the fuel filter every 50,000 miles to help prevent the fuel pump from overworking. You may also experience faulty fuel injectors so use a good fuel injector cleaner like Seafoam or Techron every 6 months. Other than this they are not bad vehicles and can be a good buy due to low resale value.

My 96 Mercury villager (Canada) won't start

I had a similar problem with my '95 Villager.

After having it towed to "my" mechanic, here is what he did.

Undid the fuel line to the engine and had me crank the engine --- no fuel came out in spite of the fuel pump whining away.

He then reattached the fuel line and took a rubber mallet and thumped on the bottom of the fuel tank with the mallet as I cranked the engine.

The van started.

It was a fuel pump problem and he suggested not drive the van until the fuel pump was replaced because his "fix" was only temporary and I could be left stranded again.

I took his advice, the fuel pump was replaced and we've been driving the van ever since.

Lose of power on acceleration like its starving

Sounds like there is a load of dirty fuel in that gas tank. Ran good for a while after changing fuel filter, then began to run poorly again. Remove fuel tank, drain and clean out, replace fuel filter AGAIN. That should cure it. Hope this helps

1998 mercury villger fuel pump and cooling fan wont work

these are separate problems. You have a black fuse and relay box under the hood by the battery. There are 3 cooling fan relays in that box. 1 for low speed fan, 2 for high speed fan. You also have a fuel pump relay there.
First I would check and clean the positive battery post connection. It has 2 smaller wires that go to all the accessories. The big one is for the starter. I probably would buy a new termianl end and replace it.
