I have a BMW 2001 Z3 and I am trying to get the radio code so the radio will play again. Does anyone happen to know how to retrieve the code ? Radio SN is Y9611281 If any one can help , I would be very thankful.

The correct radio SERIAL NUMBER is required for a code

First remove the radio from the dashboard.

Then post the radio make+model plus all the letters+numbers on any labels,barcodes and a 14 character Serial Number stamped in the metal casing.

This information can then be used to see if a code can be calculated

Turn key to on. The radio should say CODE. Key in the code with the radio numbered preset buttons. If you attempted to key in the code three times and failed, you will have to leave the radio on for at least an hour before it will let you try again.

You entered the wrong code and there is a limit to the number of tries. I believe you must wait an hour for your next attempt.

Normally the dealer just needs to know the serial and it will give you the code in less than a minute. If the code they gave you doesn't work then the radio unit  has been modified and the only ones that know what was modified  are the ones that did it.
Just bite the bullet and get a new radio - one with an iPod hookup , your wife will appreciate that.

Dealer thing just take the car down and they will run your vin number and door code to fix your security error code.

most new BMW's the fuse block is located behind the glove box. There should be a pair of twist plastic fastners at the back of the glove box, twist and remove the plate and you should find the fuse box and fuse locater list.

If the radio is displaying code wait, or wait, then the ignition and radio must remain on for 1hour. I would contact a dealer within the USA and provide them with your radio serial number. The serial number can be displayed in the radio by pressing and holding down the "M" button while turning on the ignition.

You must leave the key in the ignition for one hour before the CODE WAIT is replaced with CODE... then enter the correct code and you are away.
