So, my 2001 V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is very slowly leaking coolant. I replaced the heater core in 2009 and the symptoms that the Jeep expressed then are not happening now. However, the low coolant light randomly came on and then again about two weeks later. There is no coolant under my jeep, the temp still works properly and is not over heating. Also, I cannot see anything dripping from under the reserve tank. So any idea's about my coolant leak before I go to the garage.

Sounds like small leak in the heater core, may try a stop leak product like Bars that you add to your coolant

Your water heater core is beginning to leak. Eventually, you will find an antifreeze puddle on the passenger side floor which can eventually lead to the rupture of the heater core and a large amount of antifreeze in gaseous form within the cars interior.

It is time for a new heater core. Should you want to go the cheapest route, you can purchase a bottle of copper plugging agent. Ask your local car part guru what he has to plug a leak in the heater core.

Be forewarned: should you go this cheap route, you risk clogging your heater core for good and you will no longer have heat until you replace the heater core.

Sounds like the heater core is dirty, take the fan motor out and reach inside the air vent, you can feel the heater core (scratch your finger nails on it), is there a bunch of debri on it, I found this to be a problem when there is a leaking heater core, (coolant leaks onto the core and dust and dirt attaches to it restricting air flow and reducing heat. Also you might want to flush the entire system and replace the coolant.

Nothing special there, just run the engine with the heater on full heat and slowly add coolant. Providing the system is working properly (radiator not plugged or bad thermostat) it should continue to fill till the thermostat opens, a bit will then belch out and the level will drop. Then continue filling 'till no more will go in. (a plugged radiator generally takes coolant very slowly...far slower than normal)
Only thing that will cause it not to fill properly other than what I mentioned would be if you have a bad head gasket or crack in the head. That will continue to put exhaust into the cooling system and displace coolant. (usual other symptoms of that are steam from tailpipe or coolant in the engine oil) Test is a hydrocarbon test either by using a dye or a "sniffer" machine.

Front drivers side could be a bad cap, lower hose or the radiator itself. You need to look carefully and find the leak source. Steam travels and isn't a good indication of where the actual leak is coolant will run down and take any path it can to reach the ground. Therefore, you need to follow it back to where it is coming from, then deal with it. Your water pump can also leak and run down the lower hose. there is a small hole in the pump behind the pulley. If you see coolant coming from there the pump needs to be replaced. Sealers will not work on hoses or pump leaks so don't bother using them for that.

Changing the heater core requires complete removal of the dash panel and plenum box. To do this you have to remove the steering wheel, steering column, evacuate and recharge the refrigerant system and drain the radiator. I would only consider changing the heater core if it is physically leaking into the passenger compartment. If the problem is heat transfer to the HVAC system only, the problem is more likely with the blend doors. Check heatertreater.net for pictures and diagnostic information.

I would recommend flushing the cooling system and replacing the thermostat.....easy to do and only about $14 for a new thermostat.If that does not work then you either have a coolant leak somewhere or a bad heater core. I would also pressure test your cooling system before you flush the system to look for leaks in the system

Sounds to me like the heater core is leaking again. If you're smelling antifreeze and the window fogs up then you're getting coolant into the heating system. Most likely cause is leaking hose to heater core or the heater core it's self.

most likely the heater core.check carpet in front under dash for moisture.

check your trans fluid level, if its too much, replace your radiator and make a thorough flushings on your trans. apparently having your trans fluid contaminated will soon break your trans. check your oil level, if its too much you will need to replace your cylinder head.
