The Honda F23 series engine is a 2.3 liter, all aluminum block, 16 valve, Single Overhead Camshaft (SOHC) motor used in the Honda Accord (1994 - 2002) and Acura Cl (2.3). Timing belt failure may result in either the intake or exhaust valves bending after contacting the pistons. If the belt has broken, a Compression Leakage test is advised to determine if the valves require replacement. Compression leakage from any of the cylinders (indicating bent valves) will require the removal of the cylinder head. An inspection and rebuild of the head by a reputable automotive machine shop is recommended in lieu of doing it yourself. This DIY article only covers belt replacement. The belt replacement interval is either 90,000 or 105,000 miles based on the specific model year. Check the owner's manual for the specific service interval. If the mileage is below the threshold but the vehicle is over 7 years old, consider performing a replacement as preventative maintenance (PM). Timing belts cannot be visually inspected for wear. I would remove the crank pulley . this timing set up must be correct. you are trying to take a short cut but i would not advise that.
Remove the crank pulley and also replace the timing belt and water pump while you are there. if timing belt is installed wrong piston to valve damage will occur and you will be removing head again to have valves replaced. here is a diagram of the timing marks, if you wish to do this with out removing the crank pulley (balancer) then good luck and be careful, i am not sure what size engine you have but this is for a 2000 honda civic, 4 cylinder, they are the same,

first let me know year, engine code (or at least typ of engine 1.2, 1.4...). and I will send you picture for timing belt.
and it will (did) bend valves, so you`ll have to remove cilinder head *** well.

You are going to have to check if you bent any valves also,Honda didn't use a non interference head.You can put a new timing belt on and you'll know but this could damage a valve guide and be a waste of time if you have to take it all back apart.Pull the valve cover and loosen all the rocker adjustments(make sure to draw a diagram and note how many turns it takes to back the rocker off,this will make it a whole lot easier to reset the rockers)a badly bent valve is going to show up easily as the spring height will be much shorter than the rest.Measure all the valve spring heights on all 3 valves on each cylider(If I remember correctly there is a third small valve)make notes of the heights and wether its intake,exhaust or jet valve.You'll have to be pretty precise,I'v seen valves bent and show as little as 1/16 of an inch difference in spring height.If there is any difference in spring height your going to need to pull the head and replace the valve(s).If all the spring heights are the same you got really lucky and didn't bend any valves and you can just replace the belt.I checked and if you go to autozone.com and register your car they have a good procedure for replacing the timing belt.Hope this helps.
