While driving the DIC will tell me the left rear door ajar & then jump to right rear door ajar and then the interior lights will go on the rear windows go down! Another problem is sometimes the car just won't start. We have to take the key out of the ignition & then return it & just move the key to the on position & move the gear shift up & down & turn the steering wheel & after a few minutes it will finally start.

Our Ford Expedition & an Olds Silhouette Premier & both did the same thing. Someone online said to spray the inside door where the metal connects with the frame & sensors are there with WD-40. We did & it fixed the problem. Maybe this will work for yours.

I was shopping for a winter beater and found a 99 Alero. The dealer and I had a "B" of a time getting the key to turn. You had to push it in, pull it out a micron, cross your eyes, stick out your tounge and turn it to get it to work. 181000 + miles of wear on the ignition key had it worn down pretty good. The dealer remade the key with the key code from the manufacturer (NOT just recut from the old key) and it turned like a charm. He also said something about the old key having to be in it, removed and then the new key inserted withing 3 seconds, so the "chip" (which is in the ignition switch) can memorize the new key. (?) Sounds hokey but he got it to work. My understanding is that without the key in the on position you can't move the shifter. Good luck.

If it has a automatic transmission make sure it's in park (try pushing the shifter while twisting the key). Try wiggling the steering wheel while twisting the key. If the car is parked for long periods of time the ignition cylinder could be sticking (try spraying WD-40 in around the key). I had a classic car and the key fell out while the engine was running. And when I turned it off I couldn't turn it again even with the key, I had to replace the lock cylinder.

This Too Is A Starter Problem, If >>The Battery Terminals Are Clean <<And >>The Starter Terminals Are Clean and TIGHT <<,I Would Wait Till It Wont Start Again and SMACK THE STARTER 2-3 times with a HAMMER then Try Starting it. If It Starts then it is The Starter. I KNOW this seems A Little UNCONVENTIONAL BUT For 30 Years This Technique Has Diagnosed HUNDREDS of STARTER Problems for me.

Sounds like carbon build up on the contacts inside the electrical ignition switch which is not the key cylinder. Its located on the lower steering coluum if coluum shift or if you have a floor shift it will be inside the console
