While the car is running, disconnect Positive terminal of battery, if car continues running, alternator is good, you should replace battery,if it dies alternator is bad. Hope this helps
If it started with a jump, the battery either needs a charge or is bad.
I assume it started with the jump, but when disconnected, it died again. If so, this means it is also not charging which likely means a new alternator.
You can take the battery and alternator to the local parts store for testing (you may need both).
Sounds like the alternator is shot. The alternator charges the battery when you re driving and also gives power to the engine and accessories. If this dies the car will run on battery power until it dies.
Need to check battery condition first. Is it the original battery? If yes chances are it needs to be replaced. May have a dead cell or 2 & will not hold a charge. When it ran before this, was the check battery/charging light on? Also verify charging system is working correctly.
sound like bad battery cables.replace them.the positive battery cable is old and have a lot of resistance not allowing power to the alternator to charge battery.if battery cable good check alternator connector wires.make sure they are not damage also check alternator fuse and fuse link.turn off radio before removing battery wires so you wont lose radio code.
sounds like alternator charging output is zero, should run off of alternator output after a jump start, preform a complete charging system check , Battery , Alternator, Cables...Replace as needed...
bad cell in the battery won't hold the charge, also check alternator, once the engine is running the alternator should keep it running even with a bad battery, chances are the fouled alternator caused your battery to fail also
may i ask? when you jump start from doner car battery?? do you connect battery to battery with leads? reason for querie is the correct method is=connect leads to doner terminals on battery then on your car connect +LEAD TO YOUR BATTERY BUT THE NEGATIVE LEAD TO THE ENGINE ENSURE GOOD CONTACT ? if engine starts then ? you will have to check the earth lead from battery to engine connection it may be loose or deteriated ? doing the above test you are using doner battery power SO to check your cars battery ?and whether it is an earth connection fault? just connect 1xjump lead from your cars neg terminal on battery and the other end to the engine providing a good suplimentary earth to enable starter to function properly due to its high amps load needed if it works? check as explained above ? please update back on progress if any? good luck
