I start my 1999 dodge neon after it sits for a while and it runs but when I turn it off and start it again it runs for a few seconds then turns off. I did some inspecting by the gas tank on the passenger side and found a wire that was coreroded and hanging next to what looks like a sensor. The other end looks to be tied to the frame so it may be the ground for this sensor. I know the battery is good and the car starts so I eliminated the starting system but an stuck there. What is this wire and is it the problem?Or should I be looking for other issues?

SOURCE: 1995 Dodge Neon Sitting for a Year and wont start

Your ECM is located on drivers fender up near battery . Remove battery cable first, then remove the ECM & all the connectors attached to it. Get some electrical contact spray & clean both ECM connector pins on it, and the connector itself, down in mating females. Re-install after cleaning, & remove it again a couple of times & re-install, just to help clean up the contacts. Then lets see what you get. While your under the hood, look real close at all the wiring harnesses for signs of mice chewing through anywhere. Hook your battery back up & see if you hear fuel pump "hum" for a few seconds with key just to on position.

I had the same issue and it turned out to be grounding issues. by that I mean ALL of my grounds were rusted/loose/ too small wire/ ect.

To curb this issue i had to locate multiple grounding wires on the engine and that little wire running from the ground terminal to the front cross member was heating up because so much current draw through it- after locating grounding wires, Sanding the connections and using petroleum jelly AND replacing the ground terminal and Positive terminal the issue cleared up.

The only reason i knew it was ground issues on my car was finding that one chassis ground wire heating up from just running my car.

I have a 1997 dodge neon. The car will start but run rough at idle and stall a few seconds later. It is random and will have to keep trying to start again over and over. After.it sits 15mins will then...

Is the check engine light on when the engine is running ?
It could be a bad injector that is flooding a cylinder, or not giving the cylinder enough fuel. Or it could be an electrical problem.

HOW DO I RESET THE THEFT SYSTEM IN MY 2004 DODGE NEON?

Let the car sit undisturbed for 10 - 15 minutes, then try to start it. Check the owners manual if you have it. Sometimes, on various cars letting them sit awhile will allow the system to reset itself. On others sometimes rapidly turning the key from off to on, without turning to start 3 to 8 times within 10 seconds and then on the last turn to the on position leave it there until the horn chirps, at that point turn the key directly to start, or turn off first and turn to start. If all this fails, a dealer can reset the system.

Hi- i have a 1999 Dodge Neon that started just fine this morning. i just tried to go some place and it won't start, the lights won't come on, there is no ''clicking'' noise, the power locks don't work....

i have worked on a neon before that had that same problem.so check the connections to your brake lights, stop lights, reverse lights, and turn lights.they could have a bad connection and its draining the battery.that was the problem i had so maybe your having the same exact problem.it had took me weeks to find that problem.i would jump start the car and it would run fine, let it sit for a couple of hours and the battery would be dead.so anyways ya check that i can almost bet thats your problem.

Starting a 2002 Dodge Neon in extremely cold weather

The best is to turn the key on to the run position for a few seconds then back off then back to run and then start. This cycles the fuel pump and sends a good supply of fuel up to the injectors. Also do not rev the engine excessively until it has warmed up to allow oil to flow good.
Good luck, dont forget to rate.

My 1999 cadillaic deville ran out of gas now I can not get the car to start

Hello. I can assist you. Your car is fuel injected. So it is not like the older models where you can just pour a tablespoon of fuel into the spark plug hole. That said, Begin by unscrewing the gas cap and leaving it off until the car starts. you may need to coax the fuel through the line. turn the key on without trying to start it. Leave the key on for a few seconds, then turn it off and let it sit for a few seconds, then turn the key back on again. Electric fuel pumps used by EFI systems only stay on for a few seconds if the engine isn't running. You're trying to get the fuel back through the line, to the injectors.
