The fuel pump relay is located under the fuse box cover in the engine compartment next to the battery running back to the air filter housing. The relay is identified on a label on the under side of the fuse box cover. It is toward the rear of the fuse box
1
Disconnect the fuel-relay fuse, which is a 15-amp fuse located behind the glove compartment inside the front dashboard.
2
Turn your engine
on until it stops on its own due to lack of fuel. The disconnected
relay fuse ensures that the fuel system will stall out, thereby
allowing the pressure in the fuel lines to dissipate.
3
Raise the back end of your Camry using a car jack. Jack stands can be placed on each side of the car as an extra safety measure.
4
Place
the drip pan beneath the fuel system under your car. A 2002 Toyota
Camry's fuel system is located under the driver's side of the car and
can be found by following the fuel lines to their central location.
5
Unharness
the fuel filter from the system bracket by squeezing the small tabs
that connect it to the fuel lines. If the tabs are difficult to pinch,
use the needle-nose pliers for a firmer grasp.
6
Lower the fuel filter to the ground gently, allowing any excess fuel drainage to fall into the drip pan.
7
Install the new fuel
filter by placing it onto the bracket where the old fuel filter was
just resting. When the filter is properly inserted, you will hear the
snapping sound of the tabs locking into place.
8
Remove
the drip pan, pliers and old filter from beneath your Camry. Your shop
rags can be used to clean up any fuel that may have spilled outside of
the drip pan.
9
Bring your car back down to ground level after removing the jack stands. Exercise caution regarding any animals or children that could be in the vicinity of the car during this step.
10
Plug the fuel-relay fuse back into the outlet in the glove compartment.
11
Crank
your engine several times until it starts. The motor is unlikely to
start on your first couple tries, because the fuel is working its way
through the system again. Allow a few seconds between each attempt, and
your fuel change is successful once the car is running on the fourth or
fifth try.
