If this is an older car than what you need to do is look under the dash at the back of the ignition. it should have a plug on the back of it. remove that plug, there should be what looks to be like a washer around the unti itsself it is actually a screw that holds the ignition tight to the dash... unsrew that and remove the ignition from the front.. out torwards the driver seat. than install the new one.

If you change ignition switch do keys have to be recoded.

Hi
Yes I do believe that the keys will have to be coded to the new ignition switch as the codes won't match with your old keys
Hope this helps Nick

Ignition switch on dodge dynasty?

I had a similar problem years ago. As long as your dash lights come on, it's likely you can use an external pushbutton switch to run the starter. There are likely just 4 wires on the ignition switch. Power from the battery, and switched to:
accessories
main car stuff (dash lights, ignition, signals, etc)
starter.
splice in wires from battery and starter to new switch, and you're good to go. This worked for years on my old car.

Need to know how to program new ignition switch & cylinder

At you year make and model the factory alarm was just the pellet that disabled starter, the alarm was part of the ignition switch if anything you will need to replace the aftermarket alarm. A repair will cost you more than to replace the unit,You will have to cancel the aftermarket alarm under the dash and restore the ignition wire that is spliced for the alarm relay.

I ordered a ignition switch with key for a 01' Hyundai xg300 and installed it today. I noticed when installing the new one, it was missing a connector that the old one had. It is a two wire connector...

SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE A OLDER MODEL SWITCH. LET DEALERSHIP.FIX BECAUSE YOU NEED DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO REPROGRAM NEW KEYS AND IGNITION SWITCH TO THE IMMOBILIZER CONTROL MODULE AND ECM.

I have a 1978 Chevy k-10 and the ignition switch in the column wouldn't turn off. We bought a new ignition switch and the old one will not come out of the column. There is no retaining screw holding it in...

It sounds as though you are talking about key tumbler in column and if you are then stick key in and turn back to acc. position should come out. if it is ignition switch on top of column then turn key until dash lughts come on. and remoce switch.

How do you replace an ignition starter switch on a chevy s10 1985? i need a diagram or something.

it is on the top of the steering column in the truck cab.remove battery cables. remove the lower portion of you dash.loosen the bolts on the plate that holds your column up to the dash. the column will pull down some. you may have a gear indicator tab/string that needs to be undone. remove column clamp blots all the way. the switch is on the top, it has a rod that moves and is postioned on the column. remove old switch, install new switch in th position where the old on was

I own a 2000 impala ls and encountered the same problem. My solution to my problem was buy a new light switch and it worked. The circuits on the old one seemed to be burned so thats why they would come on sometimes. To install the new switch you need to remove the faceplate on the dash board and behind it you will find two screws holding it in place remove the screws and unplug the switch and replace.

Ignition switch locked up

Try and turn the steering wheel at the same time to take off pressure. If it still wont turn call a locksmith we are usually cheaper than the dealership or if you a mechanically inclined let me know and I will try and tell you how to remove it but it is a lot of work dash will have to come out. Probably what happened is the retainer cover that holds in all the wafers has popped loose very common with gm new ignitions they were better off with the old system hope this helps you
