A miss in the engine could be several things, but the most common is a bad spark plug wire or boot. You can check each wire for bad spots, but a trick I use is a dark garage with the car running. Use a pair of leather gloves to move the wires around, because 30,000 volts hurts! Any glowing blue is a "leaking" wire, and you may even have a shorted wire that throws tiny bolts of lightning. Replace all of the wires with a good quality set. A good set of spark pugs at the same time is also a good idea because a bad wire will ruin the plug. And yes, a bad plug or wire will turn on the check engine light because it trips the knock sensor and O2 sensors. The other common miss problem is bad fuel and or plugged injectors. Try a fuel system cleaner.
