My 1982 Chevrolet blazer power steering is too soft and not good in traveling a high speed, how can i adjust it to become a little bit harder?

Have your tires checked for cupping, make sure they are balanced and alignments is good. If all is good with the tires, could be the wheel hub bearing assembly starting to fail or a bad front strut. Normally chain repair shops will check these things for free.

the A/C works the engine harder than normal at any speed but adding high speed with it increases how hard the engine is working therefore its going to get hotter. As long as it's not over heating your fine. look at it this way if you walk you may bet hot but if you run the same distance chances are you become hotter faster.

What is the idling RPM of the engine when this is happening? There are many different types of power steering systems out there these days on vehilcles. It would make it a bit easier if we had a little more information before we give you advice. Year, Make Model, Milage, ect...Any other known issues with vehilce? Yes, the most likely culprit could be the pump because as time goes on the internal pump compoinents start to wear down and the tolerances become to great and at low rmp it cannot keep the proper pressure needed to give adequate power assist to the steering gear.

If it's getting harder when it's at low RPM. it could be a sensor in the power streering line that tells the PCM to increase the power at idle. A qualified Tech. with a good scanner should be able to tell you.

You have small universal joints on the steering column, One under the dash and the other/others under the hood. try lubing the ones under the hood do this while turning the wheel back and forth. try it a couple of times and see if it gets rid of your problem. if it did you will still need to replace the universals at some point in the near future

there is an adjustment on steering box also ujoint to box maybe bad? good luck

If your steering box is in the same place mine is, the adjustment is hidden under the radiator shroud.Generally this will remove a bit of steering play but it has to be done carefully to avoid binding.
What you really need to do is to check the entire front end for any play. Remember that "acceptable" play in one component when added to "acceptable" play in several other components = unacceptable overall play.All bushings, joints etc must be checked. Shocks need to be in good condition as well. If everything is in good condition, find a good alignment shop and ask them if it's possible to add a few degrees of positive caster to your present settings. If you have adjustment for this it will help to keep it going straight at speed. (may make turns a bit harder but with p/s it should not be noticed.

sounds like one of two things first is to check condition of all drive belts if they are all good dont let the miles fool you if the car has been driven a bit harder or had alot of uphill driving these reduce clutch wear enormously
