Listen up! here is the solution I have had to replace two of them on two engines and they are always missed diagnosed by dealers because the techs these days dont understand the basics of a 4 cycle gasoline engine and they use scanners to find problems, instead of checking for fuel, spark, compression, and vaccum.
On the under side of the intake manifold (accessisble only from the underside of the car) you will find a 3/8 inch vaccum line that goes all the way around the engine to the pcv valve on the front of the engine just below the valve cover. This hose rot's right at the intake manifold nipple. this happens because of the heat coming off the exhaust manifold that is very close. So becareful when inspecting. Its avalible from Ford for aproximatly $20.00. have fun and tell the dealer to shuv it.

What is model year? How long since a tune-up?
With idle issues, check and clean idle air system, see if it helps? Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure, key on engine off. On some ford vehicles, with everything off, unplug the maf sensor, where applicable, take the vehicle for a spin, if it does a lot better, have to check the maf system, that includes, sensor--wiring circuits--pcm.
The basics on a rough idle, is to check for a leak of some kind, fuel--egr--vacuum.
Positive fuel trim at low speed and load, the first thing, look for vacuum leak.

Changed timing belt on my 99 ford escort zx2 car no

if you have a no spark scenario i would check your crank sensor located at the top left side of the harmonic balance pulley.the crankshaft (about 11'oclock) a 2 wire plug with a sensor on it check to see if it is damaged or unsecured. this sensor can cause no spark if not working correctly. This sensor is based of frequency not voltage testing is difficult, just make sure that there isnt too muck air gap. and that it is secured.Lastly may want to check timing possible that the belt has jumped some teeth and she has fallen out of timing. maybe a bad tensioner The coil will adapt i think up to 10 degree, ****** or advance. Good luck

99 Ford zx2 wont idle after i degreased the engine.

I would start with a compressoin check. You should get more then 160 psi on each cylinder on a cold engine. If these numbers are low, then the timing belt is your likely issue. Since these engines are non-interference (don't let anyone tell you different) you can just put a new belt and pulley kit on and be done with it. I even have a how-to for this in my tips and tricks on my profile.

A bad MAF (mass air flow) sensor can cause rough running problems. This is easily tested by unplugging the MAF (4 or 6 wire plug) from the vehicle to see if running improves. The connector for the MAF can be found on the front of the airbox just after the air filter locking ring.

If that isn't the issue, a fuel pressure test is an order. You should see around 45 psi with the engine at idle and 60 psi with the engine off and key on.

1999 Escort ZX2 idling rough & not shifting in to overdrive

This could be caused by several things. Bad MAF sensor, TPS could be defective. You need to have the vehicle scanned for codes. You can have this done for no charge at AutoZone.

2002 ford escort zx2 camshaft sensor fit a 99 zx2?

Yes, All the years of the ZX2 utilize the same engine. 1998-2003 are all the same except for ECU programing and the MAF wiring. You should not have a problem.
