Right think the problem is the heater core is blocked with corrosion ,now remove the bottom hose from the rad and the heater hoses then flush every which way you can including through the heater core reversing direction then ,refit all the hoses fill with water only and see if heater works if so the remove the bottom hose again and drain ,then add a minium of 3 litres of antifreeze ,its a anti corrosion agent as well as antifreeze and without it the internal of the engine will corrode and the slurry will block the heater first then the radiator ,
There are two possibilities, one is the thermostat. Many people remove them which spoils the whole heating / cooling system. Since you changed the thermostat, I would check the heater valve on the heater which allows the hot water to circulate through the heating system.
It may be necessary to remove the heater box and flush the heater core since you talk about a lot of rust, which could have clogged the heater core and / or the pipes leading to the heater.
I have the same truck, I have flushed the radiator both ways, flushed the heater core both ways flushed the engine four times, I have owned this truck for eight years and still cannot get it to heat up the cab. It will keep the windshield defrosted but that is all. If you find any tricks to fix this let me know PLEASE
Sounds like heater core is clogged. Try to flush radiater, keeping heat on high, (set it to hottest heat setting) Buy the good stuff, as for help in selecting, you don't want to have to do it again. Follow instructions to the letter! Only do it when motor is COLD. DO NOT OPEN RADIATOR CAP WHILE HOT!!!
you did check your coolant level right? Has anything been worked on as far as cooling system lately? Radiator, thermostat, rad cap, antifreeze changed/flushed?
