Tail pipe smokes alot - 1993 Mitsubishi Mirage

I am going to say yes that is likely. White smoke means water.

Had this happen on a chev 2.8 v6, turned out to be a cracked cylinder had to replace engine

if its white smoke coming out the tail pipe then its burning coolant.possible head gasket.cracked cylinder head,cracked block,it will have to be block tested to see if combustion chamber gases are in the cooling system.

blowen head gasket,has alot of miles on it right? black slug oil mixed with water from radiator

If the smoke comming from the tail pipe is black your running rich. If thats the case the entire fuel system has to be ckecked out. Injectors could be leaking, a bad pressure regulator,stuck return line ,a coolant temp sensor could be telling the ECU that the engines cold give her more gas. I don't recommend doing fuel service unless your qualified to do so for the obvious reasons.
If the smoke coming out of the tail is grayish you have a bad head gasket. If the smoke coming out of the tail is blue you have engine oil getting into the combustion chamber. keep me posted

this smell from tail pipe may be burning coolant, does it smell sweet, if so have head gasket checked. when a car has problems with something from tail pipe. it is usually the head gasket that is bad.

If smoke is sweet smelling and alot of moisture drips out of tail pipe, it is probably engine coolant.Check for coolant loss.

Its perfectly normal.Hot exhaust gases mixing with cold air and by products of the combustion process create the watery substance that you see spit out .Dual fuel (LPG,Hydrogen etc) vehicles do this a lot more noticably.By products of the combustion process are various but water vapour is one of them.Alot of heat is generated by the exhaust so watching a car driving in very cold conditions you can see this effect more clearly
