Hi I have a 95 Fairmont sedan and I want to replace the existing broken boot struts with new, how do you get to the struts end up behind the back seat

Hi GB52. Just done this myself, should take 15 minutes perside max. 1/ remove rear seat cushion by bumping the centre back and up, lower the back rests down. 2/ Unscrew the striker plate from the seat side bolster and the bolt at the lower edge of the bolster Removing the bolster takes a bit of fiddling. 3/ use a flat-head screwdriver to release the strut spring clips - use the new ones as a guide. 4/ remove the old strut and fit the new one. reinstall the bolster, bolt and strike plate. note; when replacing the rear seat cushion, ensure the seat belts are fed through first and check that the seat retaining clips properly engage the floor panel brackets.

Hope this helps,

Davo

I need to replace the front king pin in the r/h side wheel of my El fairmont.. how do I do this ??

I take it that this is a Ford car in which case I doubt very much that it has king pins in the front end. It will have either an upper and lower ball joints in control arms or a lower ball joint on the end of a strut. Ford ball joints are riveted in from factory and the rivets have to drilled out and the new ball joints will have the correct bolts to replace the rivets IN the case of a strut the lower ball joint is replaced as above and the strut will have a replaceable insert in it that you can remove and fit a new insert in place . Ford stopped using king pins when they gave away "I" beam front axles .

Looking for instructions on replacing the rear gate support struts on a 2008 Chevy Equinox

It is very simple. All you need to do the job is a small screwdriver or pick. Open the lift gate. (it may be helpful to get someone to help you hold it open while you are working.) Use the screwdriver or pick to lift the spring clip from the ball end of the lift strut and pull the lift strut off of the ball mount. Repeat this for the other end of the lift strut. The new struts should have new clips already in place. Simply push the ball ends of the new lift strut onto the ball mounts until they "click" into place.

Repeat the proceedure for the other lift strut if you are replacing both of them.

I am replacing the strut/spring/bearing housing on the front end of my '95 grand am. Having trouble removing the large BOLTS that connect the entire assembly to the spindle. Are these bolts fully...

HI, you almost figured it out. Those two bolts have splines on the upper portion of the bold shank. Once you have the nuts removes you can take a small 2 or 3 lbs. hammer and give the bolts a couple quick hard hits that should drive them out. Its a good idea to hang a shop rag or old towel from the strut down over the bolts to keep them flying out. Good luck

Do the struts need replacing after 80,000 miles. Our tire service called and said they need replacing on my '04 Altima

the strut only need replacing if there is alot of bounce in the car, or if there leaking, or the main reason is there broken. that would be the only reasons to replace struts

Replace boots

The boots will keep the water, mud, sand, snow, dirt etc away from the struct/shock piston rods. They will last longer. Make sure the boots are secured at both ends. They are simple to install so it should be done.

Sturt and Mounts

As far as driving without having a front end alignment done AFTER the strut replacement, you should head to a shop and have a front end alignment done. You MAY notice some vibrating or tire wear if not taken care of.

Looking at your struts online, the boot comes with the struts. All you have to do is drop yours and replace with the new!

95 ef ford sedan suspension problem

What was said about the wear of the front end part when the alignment was given? I could be wrong but, I would say, Not likely for the tie rod ends and definately not the shocks for knocking sounds.. It sounds more like bad ball joints poping, although the idler arm and tye rod ends could be worn also .

Parklight replacement

Hi, if the bulb is just blown then you can replace it by removing the cover off the back of the headlight (black cover, rotates about 1/4 turn to remove) and just pull the bulb socket out of its retainer. It's the small round thing just beside the main bulb assembly, with 2 wires going to it. Once its out, just pull the bulb out, fit the new one, and reassemble. If it is the same side as the battery, you may have to remove the battery to get enough room to get in there to replace the bulb. If you remove the battery, you'll need the radio code, if its still got the original radio.
If the headlight lens is broken from some accident damage, then you'll have to take the bumper off to get the headlight out and replace it.
Hope this helps.
