Note: It is best and saves time to use a serpentine belt tool kit . It costs about $30.00.
I have a 1996 plymouth voyager. I have had this old engine completely apart and as I have found the text book answer is not always the right one. If you have experienced frozen bolts and old parts like I have you'll prefer this method. The only tools medium work gloves, 15mm socket wrench. The best way to replace and remove the serpentine belt is to remove the idler pulley. Remove the pulley from over top the engine slip the old belt off. Slip the new belt on replace idler pulley with belt in-front. With gloves on pinch both parts belt together slip behind idler pulley. This method works best for the part time mechanic and those who have older cars with stubborn parts.

That is right even same as the 3.0L but i find it easier to grab a 15 mil wrench and pull towards the front of the van to loosen the tensioner to place the surp belt on the alternator
Good luck!
