It could be a couple of things, but to save your sanity, have an OBII scan done. (fault scan) Any good parts store can do it for you (Autozone, Advance, etc) and they do it free. The scan will identify issues your cars' computer has tracked. Fix the faults, clear the codes and you should be good to go. (I suspect a TPS - Throttle Positioning Sensor or crank sensor) You might also consider running a good fuel system cleaner through it and changing fuel filter.
Crossing the battery voltage terminals is the absolute worst thing anyone can accidentally do or have happen to. When you cross the positive side of a circuit and negative side of a circuit, you force voltage to ravel in a path that is not capable of handling the incorrect polarity of the circuits that are connected to the battery, which in term, is every single 12 volt operated body, transmission and engine component. The only procedure that you perform (without diagnosing every circuit with a volt meter), is to check the fused links inside the car for burn fuses and also check the fuses and relays in the power distribution center under the hood. The PDC is a black box with a removable lid.
If nothing is found in the previously mentioned areas, and this will take some time to accomplish, voltage and OHM testing is paramount\, and will also become very time consuming with mechanical and electrical aptitude.
Understood, but if you smell electrical, then something in a circuit burnt up. The saying goes "Once the smoke comes out of the box, it is hard to get back in".
I guess that was the component that burnt up. Seems odd there was no code for this critical component.
Thanks for the update. Glad to hear you resolved this electronic issue.

Hello dicktr.... Begin by changing the fuel filter. If that alone does not solve your issue, add some carburator cleaning fuel additive to your tank. Joe
Thanks for choosing Fixya!

it`s fuel injected and i have never seen a fuel filter plug so fast don`t think that would be it and what i mean is it was running perfect half hour later not had the battery changed and they crossed the wrong posts when i got in the car you could smell a slight burn smell not sure if it is related
DON`T THINK IT`S THE FUEL FILTER IT RAN FINE I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FUEL FILTER PLUG UP THAT FAST AND FOR NO REASON DOES ANY ONE KNOW IF 03 350Z HAS A RELAY THAT MIGHT LIMIT THROTTLE RESPONCE NOTHING AFTER 1/4 THROTTLE HAD THE BATTERY CHANGED AND THEY CROSSED THE POSTS FOR A SECOND BUT WHEN I GOT IN I COULD SMELL A SLIGHT BURN SMELL NOT SURE IF IT`S RELATED AND CAN RUNS AND DRIVES FINE JUST LIMITED THROTTLE
yes i know, but the 350z has from factory, a fuse car protector on the positive battery cable just incase of this and if it burnt out the car would not even start and it runs fine, you just get very little throttle responce after 1/4 throttle. I pulled the mass air flow thinking it might be dirty but it is fine and the car didn`t start to do this until about two days later
solved the problem myself it was the MAF
solved the problem myself it was the MAF
yes no code for that, but there was a code for relearn, cleard that and never had to relearn and oddly enough the mass air flow wasn`t burnt up had oil from the K
