2003 Honda Odyssey Problem / Answer: Recently my wife had to pull over and be towed off a major highway due to smoke coming from the steering column and the smell of burning plastic. After several days at our local Honda dealership and finding nothing electrically wrong with my car I asked them to pull the radio as over the summer the radio intermittently shut off. Once they pulled the radio they found four pennies lodged in the cassette player of the radio. My two year old's attempt to save money ended costing me $125. Lesson learned.

Change the MAIN RELAY underneath the steering wheel. It should only cost you $40+ rather than bringing it to the shop. I have the same problem with my Accord and its really dangerous. Let me know if this cures your prob.

Thanks

SOURCE: steering frozen, front passenger wheel fell off, repair cost?

no he only did what was necessary to try to get the vehicle to where you needed it to go, if the steering was already locked thats probably why it was locked. but no the tow truck driver did only as requested and did not cause the damage

I can’t be much help on this one (too new for my experience), but your manual will say this (which probably isn’t all that helpful either).
The vehicle stability assist (VSA) system helps to stabilize the vehicle during cornering if the vehicle turns more or less than desired. It also assists you in maintaining traction while accelerating on loose or slippery road surfaces. It does this by regulating the engine’s output and by selectively applying the brakes.
When VSA activates, you may notice that the engine does not respond to the accelerator in the same way it does at other times. There may also be some noise from the VSA hydraulic system. You will also see the VSA activation indicator blink.
The VSA system cannot enhance the vehicle’s driving stability in all situations and does not control your vehicle’s entire braking system. It is still your responsibility to drive and corner at reasonable speeds and to leave a sufficient margin of safety.
On touring models you will also see a ‘‘CHECK VSA SYSTEM’’ message on the multiinformation display if there is a problem with the VSA system.
Without VSA, your vehicle still has normal braking and cornering ability, but it does not have VSA traction and stability enhancement.
The VSA system automatically turns on every time you start the engine, even if you turned it off the last time you drove the vehicle.
I’d get on the Honda people about the problem, especially since you just got the car. I would think that the alarming sounds you are hearing have to do with the unit working the brakes when it shouldn't be, but that's a guess.
Hope this helps some.

Very hard to give definate answer, intermitant failiures are rare on a hydroulic brake system , brake pedal pressure is created by brake fluid moving to the wheels in a leak free route, for the pedal to drop MUST mean a loss of pressure in this route, your problem could indicate a brake master cylinder or brake servo due to its intermitant nature, close to impossible to diagnose when problem is no actually happening at time of inspection...best of luck

2005 honda odyssey radio controls on the steering wheel, the volume up button changes the station while the volume down button turns up the volume

there is a service bulletin about this. the steering wheel has to be removed along with the switch gear. then the steering shaft ring that makes contact for these controls while the wheel is being turned need to be gently dimpled to make better contact. if the dimples are too extremem the whole steering column will need replaced.

2003 Honda Odyssey that will not come out Park

Yes most likely, the brake switch also sends power to a solenoid to unlock the shift lever. If the trans works fine once you get it out of park, the trans itself is fine

Honda Odyssey EX 2001 - Power Steering Pump

Hi , aparentlyyour mechanic just dont want to check nothing else, any new noise should be checked before major damage may happens, the first noise sounds like the new timing belt is rubbing the cover because they removed the alternator and air conditioner belts to install the timing belt ,may be that they did not re install everything right the way it was.......

2001 Honda Odyssey Transmission Problem

The Odyssey has notorious bad transmissions from 2000-2003. You will not get anything on a trade, the trans can be fixed for about $2k. If everything else on the van still works and you like it, figure you bought it again for $2k. I changen my wife's Odyssey trans at 175K miles for $2k and she is happy so therefore I am happy too :-)
