Torque sequence ---------------- | 9 3 1 6 8 | | 7 5 2 4 10 | ---------------- Step 1: Torque in sequence 22 Ft/Lbs Step 2: Torque in sequence 58 Ft/Lbs Step 3: Loosen all bolts completely Step 4: Retorque all bolts in sequence 22 Ft/Lbs Step 5: Retorque all bolts in sequence 54-61 Ft/Lbs recheck final torque in sequence *** CAUTION *** engine uses Torque To Yield head bolts (TTY) that permanently stretch during the initial installation. New head bolts must be used when cylinder head is replaced or re-installed to obtain proper torque.

Fig. Cylinder head bolt loosening sequence - Altima & Maxima 3.5L engine

Install the cylinder head bolts and torque in sequence as follows:

Step 1: 72 ft. lbs. (98 Nm).
Step 2: Completely loosen all bolts.
Step 3: 26-32 ft. lbs. (34-44 Nm).
Step 4: plus 90-95 degrees clockwise.
Step 5: plus 90-95 degrees clockwise.

Torque specs for 2005 nissan altima 2.5

According to Haynes Manual, 2005 Nissan Altima, using BRAND NEW cylinder head bolts:

1 - Tighten in sequence (as pictured) to 37 ft-lbs.
2 - Tighten an additional 60 degrees.
3 - Loosen all bolts completely.
4 - Tighten in sequence 26 - 32 ft-lbs.
5 - Tighten in sequence an additonal 75 degrees.
6 - Tighten in sequence an additional 75 degrees.

Step 1 -10-12 Ft.LBS
Step 2 - 60-65 Additional Degrees

Head Bolt's

Step 1 - 22 Ft.LBS
Step 2 - 59 Ft.LBS
Step 3 - Loosen all bolt's
Step 4 - 22 Ft.LBS
Step 5 - 86-91 Additional Degrees

Tighten head bolts using the following procedure:
Tighten all bolts to 22 ftlbs.
Tighten all bolts 59 ftlbs .
Loosen all the bolts completely.
Tighten all bolts 18 to 25 ftlbs .
Turn all bolts 86 to 91 degrees.If an angle wrench is not available, mark all cylinder head bolts on the side facing the engine front. Then, turn each cylinder head bolt 86 to 91 degrees.
