Wife went out to go to work and started the car. While it was idling in the dirve way it died. Immediately restarted and tach went to about 1500 RPM. After a few seconds the tach dropp ed to about 1000 and then about 750. Another few seconds it died again. I immediately restarted and drove around. It died when I came to a halt at a stop sign but immediately restarted. Any ideas? Thanks

i recently had this issue with my 2001 taurus dohc engine. when you drive it seems that everything is fine. when you stop, the car will idle very low and somethimes shut off. there is a hose under the throttle body that is attached to the pcv valve. over time, this hose will collapse and eign to tear. i replace that hose (autozone for $10) and it solved my idling problem.
mcdevito75 here, Sounds like the idle speed motor, Ford is known for these idle speed motors going bad, in the later stages the car races like crazy. have your repair shop check this idle speed motor and change it.
