Spongy brakes go almost to the floor. No external leaks. Had brakes bled, then with scan tool I reset to bleed brakes, then bleed brakes again. Same problem. Replaced Master (bench bleed) , bleed again, still no brakes. Cruse stopped working as well as did remote door switch. Problem traced to rear speed sensor circuit to ABS unit. Still can't find problem.

SOURCE: brake pedal goes to floor after bleeding the brakes many times

start off by pumping the peddle 25 times with engine off ... bleed the abs system (usually has bleeder valves near/on control unit). then bleed the rest as usual with engine off ... DO NOT turn the key on while bleeding abs brakes.

SOURCE: Need A Scan Tool To Tell ABS Computer To Bleed Brakes

WELL THERE IS A DIFFERANCE BETWEEN A SCAN TOOL AND A TOOL THAT IS CAPABLE OF OUTPUT CONTROLS SUCH AS THIS ONE A SCAN TOOL CAN BE BOUGHT FOR LITTLE MONEY ONE CAPABLE OF DOING WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE SNAP ON BRICK IS AN OLDER ONE WHICH WOULD WORK BUT EVEN THAT IS ABOUT $600 SO IT SUCKS BUT THE DEALER IS GONNA BE YOUR BEST BET HOPE THIS HELPS

SOURCE: 1974 vw Beetle with no brake pedal....

adjust the push rod that enters the cylinder.Sounds like your not letting the fluid into the cylinder.Shorten the pushrod then try.If still no success extend the rod if that fails you have a faulty cylinder.Hope that was helpfull good luck.

SOURCE: I have replace wheel cylinder on 97 Stratus, bleed

Itsw very unlikely their is a problem with the master cylinder. When you pump the brake's to bleed them it uses up the vacuum and the brakes will be spungy because the servo isnt working properly. After bleeding leave it running for a few minutes then try the pedal it should be ok. If their is a problem with the master cylinder then the pedal would go all the way to the bottom but not spungy. You may need to bleed the brake on the other side to get all the air out of the system.

Spongy brake pedal even after ABS bleed and base brake bleed.

Did you adjust the rear shoes out? If the rear drum brakes are out of adjustment they will give you a lot of pedal travel. If the pads are worn have no fear of that U-CLIP brake spring, just change one shoe at a time. Take the spring off one side, change the shoe, put the spring back on the post and do the same to the other shoe, no problem.

Spongy brakes

Does sound like you need a new master cylinder. On a 2000 you wont need to back bleed. You will just need to follow the instruction and bleed the master and all four points. you will probably need to bleed the ABS block and proportioning valve but only if they have bleeders on them.

Brakes are still spongy after changing the pads, one caliper, and master cylinder. bled front brakes.

I just went to Brake Masters this morning and had them replace the Master Cylinder since I was experiencing the pedal very spongy and going to the floor. When they replaced the Master Cylinder and they gave me back the car, the brakes were still spongy and going to the floor. I addressed this to them and they took another look at it, but when I took it for a second time, the brakes were extremely spongy. It was almost like they gave me back my car in worst condition to when I brought it in. Can you help?

98' Ford Windstar has a spongy brake

Have you had anyone try to clean and adjust the rear brakes? You will need a shop to scan the van for ABS codes first to cure the ABS light.

I replaced a blown brake line that goes to the back brakes .I bled the brakes but still have a spongy pedal. Do I need a scan tool to reset the abs system

Did you bleed all four corners in the proper sequence (RR, LR, RF, LF)? This is the way to do it, since you do the caliper farthest from the master cylinder first, and go progressively to the closest one.
