My 94 maxima gxe will not start. I turn the key forward to the start position, but there is nothing. I tried to cross-over the starter, it engages, but will not start. Also, the ECU lights will not flash to bring up the diagnostic code.
Try resetting the computer by disconnecting the positive cable from the battery for about ten minutes then reconnect and see if it starts.Try resetting the computer by disconnecting the positive cable from the battery for about ten minutes then reconnect and see if it starts.

I checked the small wire and have power ???? What small wire ? The wire on the starter solenoid has B+ voltage when turning the key to start position ? If so and your engine isn't spinning over ,your engine is seized up. Try put a socket an breaker bar on the crankshaft bolt an try turning it by hand .
Hi! It sounds like a bad solenoid, or that you're not getting the 12 volts to the solenoid to engage the heavy amperage needed to turn thr starter motor. When you say you bypass it,do you mean you are just crossing the large post of the solenoid with the battery cable connection at the starter? When you turn the key,you should get 12 volts at least at the smaller post on the solenoid. If you have 12 volts there when the key is all the way to `start 'position, then the starter probably ought to be replaced. This car being a 2000 is 13 yrs.old.Won't hurt to put a new starter on it. don-ohio (:^)
So the problem has been occuring for a year and you are just now trying to fix it? Sorry, I just simply do not understand why people do this...keep driving it until it won't drive anymore even though you KNOW it has a problem....Maybe you can explain this to me???
If you can hear the starter clicking when you try to start it, then you have a bad starter. If it makes no noise at all. then you most likely have a bad clutch switch.
Sounds like your ignition (mechanical) key assembly is bad. Key should turn freely through the full cycle. Off, on, run and start. Your vehicle should have 2 ignition switches, I.e., mechanical and electronic. Sounds like you either have a bad mechanical switch or perhaps even a problem with the steering column itself.
one easy way is to have someone hold key in crank ing position, then another person needs to hit or tap the starer housing itself.if engine begins to crank intermittently or ur cliking noise turns into small jolts of the starter trying to crank then u can bet its the strtr motor. u do need a charged batt for this test. also chek ur battery grounds they can dramatically affect starter operation if we have a voltage drop anywhere in starter circuit .chek batt cables r tight on batt posts, loose batt cables on battery will also give u clicking noise w no starter operation
ABS was optional as an add-on for the GXE Model so I can't say whether you have them or not based on the model. When you turn your key to the on position before starting the car, if you see an ABS light, then your car will have abs. If there is no light, then most likely you do not have abs.
Yes, it sounds like your solenoid is bad and staying engaged against the flywheel, you could do an amperage draw and a voltage drop test to find out for sure, but you will need an DVOM and a amp clamp. Or you could take it into an auto parts store and they will test it for free. Hope this helps.
