Gear shift selector My car will not go into gear. Its stuck in park. What part does it need?

Shift cable is broken or out of adjustment

You damaged the park shift interlock system. Need to take vehicle to dealers and have cable fixed

Could be the brake switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.
That circuit would need to be tested.

shifter linkage needs adjustment or something has fallen in to shifter mechanism

Step on the brake pedal with the engine running, then move the selector.

Change your brake light fuse, if it's blown. If that doesn't fix the problem, change your gear selector shift lock solenoid. That's what has to move, for you to be able to shift from park.

Your car will only shift out of park with the brake pedal down. If this does not release it, there is a bypass switch that is located in your center console near your gear selector. You'll actually have to remove your center console in order to access this bypass switch.

You need to remove top off gearbox and with a pry bar or screw driver pull the selector back into neutral Your gearlever has popped out of selector Gearbox does not need to be removed

Probably shift interlock solenoid.
