I have a Diesel Renalt Megane Senic 1.5dCI Dynamique -
Year 2004.
the car constantly fails to start and something appears to be draining the battery overnight.
I have had a new battery fitted but the problem still remains.
Can anyone please advise what the source of the problem could be.
Regards
Sounds like either a bad connection, or something is draining the battery when it's turned off. Maybe you already did, but the first step is to make sure that the terminals are clean and tight, and wipe down the top of the battery. Dirt on the surface of the battery can connect the terminals and drain the battery.
Not common to your car in particular, but common. Unhook your battery each night to keep from draining the battery whilst you search out the problem. Put a test meter between the battery and the cable you took off to see how much of a short there is. Some things that I have found were: 1) Some new replacement radios will drain a battery because they are on all the time, like most television sets today. 2) I have a car, (and have had a few more) that the glove box , (being plastic) was warped, and the glove box light stayed on all the time. I had to remove the bulb. 3) An alarm system, and some are factory built in, can drain a battery. 4) A trunk light, an under-the-hood light, or something else can do this. Be blessed.
i,personally, have NEVER heard of an AUDI defect that cannot be rectified.(are you sure your not buying shares in that dealer.....)take it to a VW dealer (who has the same diagnostic computer)and get a written diagnostics done, then you can see what needs to be done.then decide if its something you can do or they can fix for you...if problem persists, contact AUDI main importers, then AUDI in Germany, they will be very helpfull.
Your problem could be like a stereo being left on and it drains the battery, or you could just have a short in your system somewhere, so juice is constantly being sucked out of it.
check the vehicle, something is on constant, ig power window motor has gone bad and is on constanly althou the power window is not moving, check the windshield wipers motor, do a visual inspection of the vehicle.
Make sure everything is turned off..radio, lights, etc. If they are.. something must be shorting. you have to start a the battery and trace the wires until you find where it is coming from. Im' sure you have a mult-meter of some sort if you know its a constant 3 volts.
"it always dies if it dont drive it for 3 days or more,"
Sounds like you have a constant drain on your battery -- when engine is off the drain kills the battery. That cause is almost always very difficult to find.
" wondering if there is a specific battery I should be looking for"
In terms of the type battery, no kind is going to withstand a constant drain (if you have one) -- I'd just get whatever battery they look up at the parts store.
