I am thinking about buying a 2004 nissan maxima that has a speed sensor problem....I test drove the car today and there was slight jerking and the dealership told me this was because of the speed sensor that they will replace...does the speed sensor cause a jerking problem? Also, will the speed sensor cause the service engine soon light to come on?

Yes on both accounts. TIP: Get them to put in writing they will guarantee their repair for X amount of days, just in case sensor does not fix "jerking" problem or if comes back.

Hi, usually one of 2 sensors cause that. The camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor. Usually the latter. Does it have the no-start condition more when the motor is hot or has been running? Or is it just anytime cold or hot?
Crankshaft sensor is notorious for hot non starts and wont always leave a code. Reply with more info if you like. Does engine also run rough or lack power? Mike

2004 Maxima. God awful noise and banging and electric whirring sound when I press the brake pedal. We replaced the rotors and brakes, but noise is still there. What could it be?

remove rear wheel speed sensors and look for marks where rear hub has rubbed against sensor causing an erroneous wheel speed signal due to corosion.nissan has tech bulletin for this incident.

My 2004 maxima goes into 5th gear when put into drive. the code it read was 0340 crankshaft sensor. before i changed it the problem was intermitint now the problem exists all the time what else can i do...

The crankshaft sensor has to do with the engine and not the transmission. It sounds like the transmission has a problem unrelated to the engine rpm or movement measurement (through the crankshaft sensor).

I would have the transmission checked out for solenoids or fluid level being off or have that portion repaired before changing any camshaft sensors.

Camshaft sensor malfunctions would show up as an engine code if it were not reading valid signals.

Good luck on this repair.

Forget what things do.
Your vehicle has never been properly diagnosed.
You need to find a local repair shop that works on a lot of Nissans and is up to speed on current technology.
To start with a stalling issues and go to a cam sensor, trans, etc, tells me that you haven't found mechanics with the necessary skills to repair todays high tech vehicles.

NISSAN

Take you vehicle to a nissan dealer as soon as possible because you could be having some major transmission problems. If you have vehicle warrent, see what it covers. Could be a costly repair.
