I have a bearing sound coming from my 1996 neon. Not sure if its the altenator because i did replace it about a year and a hlf ago with one from the junk yard. The noise seems to go away when you rev it up but then comes right back. If it is really cold outside, it wont make a noise but if it is warmer than 32 degrees its starts acting up. Also it seems like when i have the heater on and i step on the gas i hear like a chirp every now and then.

sounds like you have a throw out bearing out. Put in neautral and depress pedal while idleing if noise starts its throw out bearing in clutch if noise is there when clutch is out in neautral its probly front trans bearing either involves removeing transmission and replaceing clutch assy or front bearing
hello i have the same van same year same noise.from what i was told a friend of mine had that same noise on his dodge caravan same year he got rid of the noise by replasing the altenator.the mechanic told him that these vans suffer from weak bearings inside the altenator and after a while they all sound the same.
Have an auto electrician CHECK ur HARGiNG system!
Either ur battery got problem or the alternator!
Alternator should have 13 to 14 volts output while running!
Taah!
You could have a bad or worn serpintine belt. When you replace it make sure all the pulleys are rotating freelyi.e. air compressor, alternator, tensioner idler & power steering pullies to make sure all of their bearings are running freely. Good luck!
There may be an internal leakage because of a dried up gasket on the valve body. Other seals and orings if dried out can break after so many cycles and fail under ppressure. I would hope a valve body gasket is leaking. Otherwise it could get deep. There sare several things that can be chk'd when the valve body is lowered to replace the gasket. Check ball sticking and function would be two. Make sure your fluid level is correct. Sometimes the simplest IS the answer to the problem. Good luck
