Firing order is 1-3-4-2. Cylinder one is usually on the end farthest from the transmission.

THE BEST WAY TO DO THIS JOB IS REPLACE ONE WIRE AT A TIME, PLUG INTO PLUG FIRST AND THEN NEW DISTRIBUTOR CAP YOU CAN GET THE RIGHT PLACE BY FOLLOWING THE WIRES ON THE OLD CAP, NEVER PULL YOUR WIRES AND CAP WITHOUT A GUIDE BOOK. ONCE YOU GET ALL THE WIRES CHANGED YOU CANTAKE OFF THE OLD CAP AND JUST PULL THE ROTOR AND PUT IN THE NEW ONE. THERE IS NO ORIENTATION ON A ROTOR, ON THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP YES. AND THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP ONLY GOES ON ONE WAY.

Spark plugs and wires

It sounds like the spark plug wires are not plugged into the correct place on the distrubutor. take the distributor cap off and crank the engine over. Make a note of which direction the rotor spins. (Clockwise, or Counterclockwise) then find the firing order for that engine. Sometimes the firing order is on the intake manifold. (if you tell me which engine it has, the 4 cylinder 2.0, or the 6 cylinder 2.5; I could post you the firing order). Now on the distributor cap there is one wire post that has the #1 on it, that would be where you put the spark plug wire from cylinder 1. Following the rotation of the distributor rotor, you would put the spark plug wire for the next cylinder in the firing order after the #1 wire, and so on.

I need to know what the order on the distributor cap in for the plugs are I know the firing order I just go the last two wires mixed up on the drivers side so I know it's 1-3-5 but where are the locations...

You need to determin which direction the rotor button turns when the engine is running. Take the cap off and get someone to bump the starter . Watch the rotor. If it turns counter clockwise the fireing order will follow its order counter clockwise on the distributer .In other words # 1 wire on the distributer goes to # 1 spark plug. Then the next wire counting counterclockwise goes to # 3 plug . Follow the firing around the distributer for all the wires. counter clockwise is the oppisit to the rotation of the hands on a clock .

Low power and missfire, have replaced bad distributor and rotor. 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada AWD. Where are the fuel pump and filter located?

I have replaced Distributor cap, rotor, wires, and spark plugs in my 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada AWD smart track. To replace one spark plug I had to collapse the steering column, but everything went O.K. Did you marked the wires?. Did you reconnect them in the firing order?
The fuel pump is located In the fuel tank. Remove the fuel tank and take the fuel pump out from the top. This is part cost $300 and need some skills to be replaced.
The fuel filter it is directly in front of the fuel tank. Another one is incorporated with the fuel pump.

Engine misfiring.

most all v8's have the same firing order which is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2. sparkplug gap seems fine. with the engine off, bend the sparkplug wires between your fingers, if small cracks appear then replace them. number one sparkplug is located at the front driver side of the engine, front to back on this side are cylinders 2,4,6, and 8 respectively. turn the engine to the compression stroke on number one, pull the cap, the rotor points where number one will be.

We replaced the distributor cap and rotor on our Dodge Ram Van 1500, but one wire popped off as we were working and we aren't sure they are in the right order anymore. How do we find a diagram to help us...

the firing order is usually stamped on the engine itself. Take off the distributer cap and turn the ignition to see which direction the rotor is turning.

The distributer cap has the number 1 plug marked . After finding the firing order, place the wires 1 where the cap is marked then in the direction the rotor is turning (ie:clockwise or couterclockwise). Keep looking . Most every motor I have seen has the firing order maked right on the engine.Or the owners manual ?

Need wireing diagrham for 350 c10 chevy truck.i have fireing order but not shure where wires go.if you could sem me email that would be great.

Hey fishernash4,

Viewed from above, front of vehicle at the bottom, cylinder locations are:
8 7
6 5
4 3
2 1

The distributor rotation is clockwise.

To find Top dead center (for wire to cylinder #1 on distributor), look for and line up the timing marks on the crankshaft (front of the engine).

Or, pull the #1 spark plug, stuff the hole with a cork or a rag. Slowly crank the engine until the cork pops out. Pull the distributor off. The rotor is pointing where the plug for cylinder #1 should go. The rest of the wires go in the firing order clockwise.

Firing order: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

That about covers it.

Remember: Good things come to those who rate. How about a nice FixYa?

Mike
