Computer is out of car...before putting back in the rebuilder of the computer says I have to replace The Idle air control motor...the TPS and the Intake air temp sensor. Is there a way to check these parts without computer in the car? They say that computer will or could Fry again if I dont....p.s. the Idle air control was replaced about 30 days ago because of a code...and the fuel pump was fried and replaced...also the alternator about 30 days ago.

The only component that they sggested you replace that could damage the ecm is the idle air control motor.it is very common for these to short out when they fail and damage the drivers that control them in the ecm.you say you recently replaced idle copntrol motor?did you get it from nissan?if not have it checked for proper resistanc across coils(22 ohms?).alsolook for sign of coolant in valve or valve bore as mounting gasket failure can allow coolant to damage valve.as a rule sensors can not damage ecm only actuators can.another common one on these are the electronic motor mounts.....when they short thy damage ecm.good luck.

Where's the idle screw on a 2002 Cadillac Deville

No screw - fully computer controlled. Also, there is no idle control sensor - just a throttle position sensor (TPS) and an idle air control (IAC) motor. If you are replacing the IAC, clean the throttle body ports VERY carefully using a recommended solvent.

96 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder 2.2....i replaced the TPS but it is still wanting to die. its starts off idling a little below 1000 rpms but within a few seconds it dies out...HELP!

Idle is controlled by the computer through the Idle Air Control valve. It would be right on the throttle body. The idle valve or motor may be defective, or the tip of it and the air passages it controls might be caked up with deposits, preventing good idle. Clean with a good sensor safe intake or throttle body cleaner. If you take the valve off for checking, plug the electrical connector back on and watch the needle tip when the key is turned from off to on. It should move when the key is cycled. If nothing, it may be defective.

1996 chevy 1500 4wd pu. carb. problems. rough start, and takeoff, poor gas mileage, and not shifting. has tbi.

Check the TPS, (throttle position sensor), and the IAC, (idle air control motor), for proper operation. Rebuild TBI unit if necessary. Kits are available aftermarket.

Repair low idle on 85 mercury grand marquis 302

You never replace parts unless you can prove they are faulty.
The tps tells the computer if the throttle is open or not.
The idle air control valve is how the computer controls idle speed.
The valve could be faulty, or you could have a dirty throttle body.

My car would start this morning but then kept shutting off. I replaced the throttle positioning sensor now it stays running but at a real high idle?

Possibly the wrong TPS? Also check for carbon build up in your throttle plate; if there is you may clean it with choke cleaner - be careful not to get the choke cleaner on your idle air control motor as it will cause it to seize.

Your IAC motor may be faulty. Remove it from the throttle body and push down steadily with your thumb; it should move without applying too much pressure; if not - replace. You will need to drive the car after replacing an IAC motor so that your computer can "learn" the idle position.

High idle after engine is warm. nothing is sticking with linkage.1992 chev k1500 5.7

Make sure the idle screw was not turnned causeing tps sensor to read over the spec limit, the next then is to make sure the idle air control valve is working , a bad valve will cause this problem and last is the stepper motor that controls the idle. some of these around this year used steeper idle control motors instead of idle air control valves and in turn the stepper motor is bad it will hold the throtle plate open to much causing the tps reading to be wrong triggering the engine light to come on. the steeper motor will be boltted to side of the throtlebody and theres a small arm to the throtle linkage. i will enclose a stepper motor picture and an idle air valve to show you, but this sounds like the tps is out of range due to this. the last thing is to make sure there are no vacuum leaks, spray crab cleaner around throtlebody base gasket and also the intake mounting gasket and see if the idle changes is so theres a vac leak in that area. good day. okay just did a little research and this truck does have a idle air control valve, the picture is encolsed and is screwed into throtlebody, check that and for vacuum leaks, make sure tps is good sometime it will test good when testing and go bad when it wants, you could have a bad tps and idle air control valve also.11_27_2011_9_27_54_pm.jpg

Will not idle but will stay running if under load. I changed the TPS but only changed the idle for about ten minutes. Please help im lost

Sounds like the AIC (Air Idle Control) motor might be bad or stuck in the closed position not allowing enough air to enter the engine at idle. Also when you changed the TPS you need to make sure that it is set for 0 deflection, if not the same will occur because the computer won't know that the throttle is at idle and will close the the AIC thinking you have you throttle depressesed.

Throttle body removed and replaced

I'm not a chevy guy, but I think you need to reset the throttle position sensor (TPS) once it's disconnected.

For idle, the throttle plate is almost closed with just a little air getting through. For more air, an IAC idle air control valve lets more air in to maintain an ilde speed. The TPS tells the engine computer when the throttle plate is closed and then the computer tells the IAC to let more or less air in to maintain idle.

So, as long as you reconnected all the connectors you took off, I'm guessing you just need to make some readjustments. Calling your Chevy dealer service department, they can tell you if that's true.
