I have an oil leak underneath engine. I don't see it leaking onto ground, but pan underneath engine is very oily. Uses quart oil between 2500 mile changes. Its hard to tell where oil is coming from. Also both front seat heaters not working. Any help will be appreciated.

It can be difficult to determine the source of an oil leak, especially if the valve cover has already been replaced. Here are some common causes of oil leaks in vehicles:
Engine gasket leaks: Engine gaskets can leak oil, causing oil to seep out onto the engine and surrounding components.
Engine oil seals: Engine oil seals can become worn or damaged, causing oil to leak from the engine.
Engine oil cooler: Engine oil coolers can develop leaks, causing oil to leak out of the engine and onto the manifold.
Engine oil pan: Engine oil pans can develop leaks, causing oil to leak out of the engine and onto the ground.
Engine oil filter: Engine oil filters can develop leaks, causing oil to leak out of the engine and onto the manifold.
If you are unable to locate the source of the oil leak, it is recommended to have a professional mechanic inspect the vehicle
Hi, for oil to leak that fast you have got a massive leak. The ticking itself could be from low oil. First check the oil plug (where you drain the oil) on the oil pan with will be the bottom most part of the engine. It is possible the plug is not holding tight, the gasket may be old, torn or just plain missing. Sometimes people will strip them oil plugs. When this happens the pan has to be tapped a little over and a new, slightly oil plug installed.
On the oil filter housing are oil cooler line that have to hold a lot of pressure. Follow those lines to see if they are leaking oil.
I don't see a front seal leaking leaking quite that bad. A valve cover I am not sure would leak quite like that either. Your oil pan gasket could leak like this though. When you check the oil pan plug look strait up to all them little bolt holding the oil pan to the lower part of the engine. If leaking is noted then snug them bolts up or have them snugged up.
You may have to throw a piece of cardboard on the ground and crawl underneath with a flashlight and get a better eyeball on the leak. What ever the leak it is massive and should be repaired before driving or you could loose to much oil and seize your engine. The ticking. in my opinion, is the engine telling you it is very low on oil as it is.

a leak under the motor can be from many places, first check the top parts,, most the time its a valve cover leaking, sometimes it just needs to be tightened from many miles of vibration, they loosen up, if that checks out ok, try underneath ,, the oil pan gasket and the oil filter seal ,
Keep checking the oil every time you gas up and you will be able to estimate how much oil it uses/100 miles or so. Then you can plan your trip. If the oil gets too low a warning will show up. That engine has about 7 quarts in the pan. As long as you don't run the engine low on oil the leak is just waste.
i have heard that some subaru uses oil, due to the high performance, or it may be a leak in the piston gasket, until it blows black keep going, another way you can see if there is a prob with thje pistons, is check is the emisions go to an MOT teasting center they will put it on and will tell you if you have problem, just ask them to test the emishions, then you can take the problem from there good luck
HI, the best thing to ensure the right choice of repair is to look under the vehicle and inspect the oil pan and plug. you will notice on site where the leak is during this inspection. Considering the miles on this vehicle, the oil consumption is quite normal. you will have to replace the valve seal and rings soon. most oil consumption will occur around the 90-100,000 mile mark. Most likely, this oil leak will be coming from the oil pan itself but, it always good to inspect it before you buy new parts.
the best way to attack an oil leak like this is to have the engine steam cleaned of all oil top and bottom and then drive it for about 20 miles and look up top and bottom of engine for the source of the leak, your leak could be the valve cover, the pan gasket or the crankshaft rear main seal or a combination of all three, reember the oil runs back and down, so where the oil drips on the ground is not always where the oil is leaking from
Northstar engine, that's about right. They do take about 8 quarts.
The most common place they leak at is at the oil filter housing that attaches to the block of the engine.
