1987 cutlas ciera 2.5 starts fine runs good for 4 or 5 miles, just shuts down. will turn over fine but not will start,wait 15-20 mins. starts right up again.

you have a mass airflow that prob. neews to be cleaned you can do this in sec. where you airfilter is you will see a according hose going over with a clamp at the end of it, undo the clamp pull the hose back and us mass air flow sensor cleaner( but any parts store for aboutr 10.00) and spray the screan in their and wait for about 3 mins for it to dry befor you reclamp the hose on. see if this works
try unplugging the temp sending unit,if problem goes away and only check engine light comes on then replace the temp sender.if problem is still there try unplugging the engine cooling fan sometimes shorts can do this .it is related to the temp and computer is going into safety mode and shuts it down.
heh, you might want to change the title here as I am pretty sure you cant idle under heavy acceleration. However I think you were on the right track with the plugs and wires. You didnt mention the cap though and that is usually the biggest culprit in damp weather. Put a new cap and rotor on it and see if that doesnt do the trick.
I AM LEANING TOWARDS A POSSIBLE BAD CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR A POOR CONNECTION IN THE IGNITION CIRCUIT, PERHAPS A BAD IGNITION MODULE. CHECK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE POWER GOING IN THE MODULE AND GOING OUT. ALSO CHECK FOR SPARK WHEN IT IS HOT. I HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR AN HONEST RATING. locate the ECM under the dash on the right side in the side kick panel, gain access.do not remove it,light tap on it while it runs see it the motor changes.you probably need another ECM.I would have to have more info to help you better.
If you have a V-6, your fuel pressure should be 40 to 45 lbs. If you have'nt done it already, replace the fuel filter and try again. Make sure the pressure does not leak down to near 0 lbs, the pump should hold near the pressure it produces.
