Yes if the light has come on it wil be one of the engine sesors as it will have picked up a fault in the engine or electrics if the car is running fine and has no problems it could be that one of the sensors has a fault and needs replaced or reset ,best bet is to reset your cars ecu/computer and if that helps

Check engine light on. told it was computer senser

There are a lot of sensors. Anything the computer comunicates with can trigger a Check Engine light. Vehicle specifics and what code is given would be needed to further assist.

The Check Engine Light won't go off. I've had it checked twice, and have been told that there is no problem. How concerned shoudld I be? Concerned in D.C.

I suspect that your check engine light is a failure of the air/fuel sensor found in the exhaust system. This sensor checks the fuel to air ratio and sends a signal to your computer to adjust the amount of fuel sent to the injectors. This sensor sticks into the heat of your exhaust and often fails and has to be replaced. Your dealer and some repair shops know how to turn this light off by accessing your computer with an OBDI or OBDII reader. If they exstinguish this Check Engine Light and it comes back on which is usual, then the sensor has to be replace. See: http://www.amazon.com/OBDII-Engine-Scanner-Trouble-Reader/dp/B000LEPT5G

Was told the check engine sensor needs to be replaced will this affect the mechanical working of the care if it fails?

There is no check engine sensor. The check engine light is controlled by the ECU (computer). There are many sensors that send signals to the ECU. If one of these sensors is telling the ECU that something is not right the ECU will set the check engine light. Whoever told you the check engine sensor needed replacing does not deserve your money. Take you vehicle to another trusted technician and have it diagnosed. If it is running perfectly then there is no hurry, but you do need to find out what is wrong as some problems can cause the O2 sensor or the Catalytic Converter to fail. Just depends on what the problem is. Even a loose gas cap will set the check engine light.

I have 2002 Lexus RX300 all wheel drive and the engine light went on when I drove over a high snow. I took the car to Lexus service (paid $120 to check it on the computer) and I was told that there was a...

if it has only happened the twice when you have went over high snow , it seems to me the sensors have just got wet then sent the signal through to the computer as they normally do , i would'nt worry about it unless it came on constantly ....

I need to reset check engine dash light in 2004 deville. dealer has told me what is going on and i choose not to repair at this time. how do i make the check engine light in dash

If the check engine light is on, one of the sensors on the engine are not sending the computer the right signal. And most of the time the sensor is bad. And that is probably what is wrong with your car. So until the sensor is replaced, then you can not reset the check engine light.

96 Lincoln town car computer cycle through sensors

the ecm will cycle all of the sensors in the time that it takes you to put it into gear and start moving
on start up you will see all of the required sensors to be checked in the dash lights and when the lights go off , all the sensors are checked
when running any faulty sensors are checked and if the ECM can self adjust to compensate then it will do so
if not it stores a fault code or puts the engine light on

Don't know what type of sensor I need for my 93 Regal

If your check engine light is on the computer in your car can give a code. Aamco will read your check engine light for free. Might need a repair manual to find out what code means (which o2 sensor). If check engine light is not on you will probably need to get each o2 sensor tested by a mechanic.

O2 Sensors

Autozone oxygen sensors do not function properly in Toyota vehicles. Just had a Tacoma yesterday with the same issue. New sensors, runs poor, check engine light on. Toyota sensors fixed it right now.
