86 corvette cheak engine light will not go off

Says 84-86 but this is the norm on all v8's till the late 90s

take apart the handle in car cut cable to expose the inner cable grab it with a pair of pliers

Pull the PCV hose at the intake/throttle body end and check for carbon/oil buildup.

notorious problem for hideaway lights, needs new motor, had a 86 trans am same problem

Hi,
1.Remove the two Phillips head screws from the brake light lens cover.
2.Pull the lens cover away from the tail light panel. Set it aside on a soft surface because the lens scratches easily.

3.Push in the bad brake light bulb. Twist it counterclockwise to disconnect it from the socket
4.Insert the new brake light bulb while wearing gloves. Twist it clockwise to secure it to the socket.

5.Re-position the lens cover. Push it in firmly to secure it, and then tighten the two screws.

Try a new distributer acp and rotor button,they are notorious for failing when the carbon probe wears out.

use a 12v test light and check for voltage on small solenoid wire at the starter while turning the key to start.This will let you know which way to go .There is no relay involved that would interupt this signal to the starter from the ignition switch unless added aftermarket for an alarm system.

the light can be reset by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, but the light is telling you there is a problem in the electronic controls of the engine, until that problem is fixed the light will continue to come on.
