1999 ford expedition - needs a timing belt, but mechanics keep telling me that it has a chain and not a belt. I just need it done and want to know stuff like - how much time it takes, how much it cost's, is it a belt or chain? etc.

No engine used in the Expedition has a timing belt, they all have timing chains, timing chains never have to be replaced unless they fail or the engine is being rebuilt. On this engine replacing the timing chains for each of the two camshafts (2) cost about $500.00

Want to know at what mileage one needs to replace the timing belt on a 1999 Ford

None of the engines in a Ford Taurus use a Timing Belt. They use a timing chain that should last the life of the engine. There is no service interval for a timing chain.

Does the 2001 escort zx2 have timing belt or timing chain

yes they have a timing belt

if you need it changed I seriously suggest that you take it to a reputable mechanic, especially if it's already broken. If the intake and exhaust valves are not in the right position when the piston is TDC, it will cause extensive damage.

I need a water pump in my 1995 maxima and it has a timing chain. The dealer tells me its less expensive to change out when the car has a timing chain rather than a timing belt. An independat mechanic tells...

your engine has a timing belt not a chain and the water pump is run by the timing belt, and when the pump is changed the belt should be too,it should run you about $300 if the job is done right with the pump, belt, idlers and tensioner if needed, hope this helps

A loud sound shortly after starting my car

I'm guessing that you Expedition has been making this noise probably since you've had it? Even if it hasn't, I think I can bring you some comfort. If you could pinpoint where the noise was coming from under the hood, would you say that it's somewhere over on the passenger side? My dad owns a 1998 Ford Eddie Bauer Expedition, and we noticed a loud noise with the same habits as what you're describing. Come to find out, there is an air compressor under the hood, I can't remember exactly what it's for, but the sound that I believe you're hearing is the compressor filling up with air and then shutting off once the proper amount of pressure is reached. You might try popping the hood to try to locate the exact place that it's coming from, but I can tell you that it's probably a 99% chance that when you find your noise, you'll find the compressor I'm referring to. Hope this proves to solve your issue and helps to ease your worries. Have a wonderful evening!
