Where is the speedo sensor? - 2000 Ford Focus

  • JRhea Nov 17, 2008

I have a Diagnostic code of P0720 for the output speed sensor. The only sensor I can see on the transmission is on the bottom just above the shaft on the side where the exhaust pipe comes down. I saw it while changing the oil. I'm not totally sure if this is the output speed sensor but it is a logical location for it. I ordered a part from Auto Zone that came up as a vehicle speed sensor which I figured was another name for the same part but when I tried to install it, it did not fit and has a different connector.

Yes it was the wrong part. I took it back and decided to order from a dealer which turned out to be cheaper. Who would have thought that the dealer would be cheaper. Car works fine now.

How to check speed sensor on 1999 Subaru forester

if abs is failed light off speed sensor is fine. if on and no speedo then its the sensor. if no abs light and no speedo then the problem is from the abs unit to the ecu to the speedo and any other device in line, like sunroof etc as the signal is though there. also to rule out speed. speedo should jump a bit back when power is turned on from ignition if not then its between the connection to the dash and speedo. sensor is on passide for speedo and abs.

Got all gears but it wont go into over drive an the speedo wont go past 60 mph the speedo is not cable is this a electrical problem or sensor

run the fault codes
it could be a VSS sensor that is not communicating with the TCM to select OD
it also reports to the speedo to show speedo reading

99 silverado abs light stays on transmission won't shift from 1st and speedo doesn't work I have replaced all vss sensors and checked fuses and still no luck help please!

for the speedo its going to be a speed sensor and with the ABS light on it will probably be an ABS sensor you'll have to figure out which one.Does the speedo go crazy sometimes or just doesn't work at all

Speedo works intermitently 99 outback legacy

I had to replace my vehicle speed sensor in my 98 Legacy GT. you can unscrew it from the transmission and hook it up to a drill to spin it and it will show the RPM's on the speedo, but it could be the sensor or the speedo head. The sensors are around $120, and having a speedo repaired can be a few hundred at the max. It's most likely the vehicle speed sensor only because that is usually the problem nine times out of ten. I hope this info helps.

Speedo inop

It sounds like you have a bad speedo sensor in the transmission. The sensor is usualy not all that expensive, and shouldn't be too hard to replace.
