Timing chain repair on peugeot 504 /setting the timing after repair

I am requesting the method of setting the valve timing after replacing a timing chain. I was requested to help the man who owns the car after the old chain was removed and the engine position had been disturbed. The timing marks are a small line on both the crank pully and on the cam pully. I jusst need to know how to poaition these marks. I am a motor mechanic (Retired) so will understand the instructions. Better still if one is able to get hold of an illustration it will help. Regards, Graham Chapman.

The Peugeot 504 XS produced in 1994 came with a range of engine options, including a 2.0-liter inline-four gasoline engine with a maximum power output of 120 horsepower (88 kW) and a 2.3-liter inline-four diesel engine with a maximum power output of 71 horsepower (52 kW). Can I substitute 1600cc pistons with 1800cc pistons on peugeot 504 single carburator ?

To be honest for the work involved it would be easier to just swap out the 1600cc engine for a complete 1800cc engine. Engine cc can be set by different things. Piston bore, piston stroke, connecting rod length and so on. 1800cc pistons might simply be the wrong size for the cylinder bore.

Peugeot timeing

its a long process for the novice. I suggest getting a repair manual at your local autoparts store to help in your troubles. The process includes finding the timing marks, partial disassembly of engine to access timing belt/chain. To sum up the process, you disconnect your battery, remove timing chain cover, line up timing mards on camshaft/crankshaft which could be dots, marks or grooves, replacing the belt/chain, and reassembling engine. The repair manual will give step by step instructions as well as pictures. To post all that here would take more than 10,000 charecters of text, which fixya limits us to 10,000 charecters. Very long detailed list of procedures for sure!

1985 mdel diesel lost timing due to tensioner failure would like to set it back correctly

You might want to check if that engine is an interferance engine first. Most of the car diesels in that era were interferance engine meaning if they jump time or belt breaks, it usually wipes out the valves as they hit the pistons until the crank stops turning.
