After changing the plugs, the wires, the coil, the module, distributor cap and rotor still have weak spark on Bank One. This is on a 1996 Chevy c1500 5.0 l

car battery is weak
ICM bad?
bank 1 only? there is bank devices here, at all
just 1 coil the dizzy cam just spins the rotor and picks 1 to 8.
if not the cap is bad or the timing is way off. or wire sets wired wrong. order
bank 1 is left bank 1,3,5,7

fact 1 one step one is set the spark gap to spec (this engine/year)
never run out of box lugs gaped at factory that is 0.045
the HEI gap spec 5.0L is 0.060": huge. that is.
almost 2 times 1995 gap. HEI is powerful.

you did not mess up the firing order ,did you?

to do all that. we , remove he cap
put on the new cap first
then remove 1 wire and replace in the correct order 1by1 correct to the new cap from old
not doing it wrong. end to end. 1 to 1, 2 to 2, etc.
then do plugs last. 1 by 1, never all at once

5.0
order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2

rotor turns CW

1988 GMC S15 no spark at plug??

step one is test spark at coil first not distributor.(last)
the coil has a HV lug use spark wires HV + plug to test that this is first. if fails the distrib is bad, VR pick up.
s15 jimmy or PU
which engine,
2.5L 151cid L4
2.8L 173cid V6
4.3L 262cid V6 <<<< I will guess this and answer.

try new distributor.
and must be timed,
set engine, to TDC 0-degrees, #1 piston on firing stroke
step1 is that. so new dizzy super easy to put back same. time.

the ICM runs the coil but the ICM has inputs, that must be working
1988 uses what to make ICM work, good pickup coil
The PCM (VCM) runs the 4 wires to the Distributor and ICM in it.
if PCM is bad, or inputs to it are bad, there will be no spark
there is no CKP sensor here ,just CMP and CMP is the pickup coil inside DIZZy and connect to ICM and ICM makes spark. (ign coil)
the PCM I think only does spark timing advance.(called EST)
but no sure me how the 4 wires on PCM to Dizzy work.
a new pickup coil might fix this , (it is CMP named now)
CMP is cam sensor and here it is via cam to main DIZZy shaft to pickup coil)

How to remove & install distributor on 1998 Suzuki jlx

answsered here 100s of times now, ok.
does the engine run now< and not fiddle by the wild bunch?
then that is very easy,
first mark all wires. 1,2,3,4 (1,3,4,2 ) is firing order
the rotor turns CCW (do not read GM book lies)
the front cylinder is #1
mark cap tower term.as #1 (the front wire goes there)
  1. now remove cap (distributor)
  2. turn engine by hand until rotor points to #1 location.
  3. This is TDC #1 firing point. (see crank pulley notch at 0?)
  4. I also mark #1 on rim of dissy. (cuz, im careful) and (ask)
  5. remove the clamp bolt and side plug.
  6. pull dizzy out. (distributor slang)
  7. put new dizzy in, allowing for the 13tooth gears to mesh and turn and landing with rotor on #1 mark! . (3 tries, sure)
  8. set clamp bolt, plug in side plug.
  9. Cap back on wires same as before, do not scramble the wires.
  10. new rotor on installed wrong, cheap rotors are just that the install wrong, and never a BOSCH rotor , it fits 1 way only.
  11. The engine now starts.
  12. set static timing using the timing freeze jumper detailed below.
  13. open hood (usa,) look up,see that EPA sticker and timing spec, bingo.

covers all ways (vast) to mess it up, too, not just the simple replace.

good luck.

I had my 92 prelude started once i put a new battery in after sitting for 2 years. The next day it wouldnt start i have new dizzy new plugs new wires new coil and the icm and now it wont start. I have fire...

Check the inside of the distributor cap for "carbon tracks", which is a bad cap with a path to ground for the ignition pulse. You would need a new dist. cap and rotor, if you see those carbon tracks.

Why wont my 1998 astro van start?

With the engine at #1 TDC your rotor bug should be pointing at your #1 plug wire.

1993 Grand Cherokee Lardo runs great then it decides it does not want to start

THE JEEP ZJ ! NO ENGINE STATED, so real hard to help !!!!
cranks robustly (crank shaft actually turns, look)
and will not start.?
no engine stated, there are many , must know engine to fix them.
so did you check spark at all cylinders. ?
and timing of them.
and spark wire firing order, one guy had a friend swap them for fun.
(he had a accident later.. LOL)
if spark is hot on all 4 or 6 cylinders.
and #1 fires near zero on the pulley, then
try test fuel, spray it. runs for 3 seconds and sounds good.
that mean engine and spark are good and you lost fueling
the steps are same 1920 to now, on mr. otto cycle engines.

a 60k tune up is more.
1: spark plugs , J plugs, stock & gap'ed right.
2: spark wire. new.
3: cap and rotor.
4: air filter, and fuel filter.

when you replaced the dizzy(why?) did you read the FSM
to retime it, it times injection too.
be sad to make it worse throwing parts on top of a good dizzy

there is no reason to replace the DIZZY unless
one of these fails #42 or 54. 54 is dead dizzy Cmp sensor.
ever see this? DIAGNOSICS.
https://sites.google.com/site/thezjpage/zj-diagnostic-trouble-codes-dtc-s

got a ignition spark strobe light?, this is childs play.
check spark x6
check firing near TDC #1 , near 0 degrees. see hood spec for exact spec. (open hood ,USA, look up, see EPA, timing spec, BINGO.)
and firing order, do not cross wire to wrong plugs
do not guess at firing order or rotor direction or all this fails.
true for all cars with dizzy,
the fsm is there. no need to guess. ever

  1. if engine is good (compresson)
  2. and spark is good
  3. and not flooded, (look)
if not flooded it will run for 3 seconds, at least.
if flooded
use super secret , unflood mode, crank WOT
wide open throttle, its in the oper , guide this for all cars made, 1988 to now.

My 1998 toyota camry wont start

remove the distributor cap and check for corrosion on the points or carbon tracking lines inside the cap...most likely needs a full tune up being plugs, wires, cap and rotor

I have a vitara jlx se 1.6i 16v and i have a problem starting it when u turn the key to start it the engine turns over fuel is gettig to plugs the plugs are sparking the timing is all spot on iv changed...

Sounds to me like your dizzy is 180 degrees out.
Too explain: Suzuki does things oddly... the timing marks on the cam sprocket line up when #4 is ready to fire. But then they have you time the distributor to #1. to get it ready for #1 to fire you need to turn the crank one turn. This oddity causes many others to have your issue. So you can check... If you line up the marks on the cam, the dizzy rotor should be pointing at the wire going to #4.

Truck wont crank. we have put new distributor cap, rotor button, coil pack, plugs, wires, and fuel pump. we also checked our firing order.

you said you repl dist cap that means you don't have a crank sensor you have electronic ing module. remove your elec ing module have it tested most auto parts stores could test your module, or check your coil at the neg terminal. should have power. if not you lost your primary volt from your batt.your secondary power is coming from your electronic ing module from the module to the pos terminal on the coil, when the eng cranks, from the coil to the dist cap , from the dist cap center to the rotor then out to the plugs, this all happen pervided the timing belt or timing chain is ok. the cumbustion chainber needs 3 things , thats fuel, air, and spark.

Need firing order diagram.. wont start

remove the dizzy cap, crank motor over to find out the rotation of the rotor. Remove the no.1 spark plug and bring no.1 piston up to top dead centre on compression stroke, mark side of dizzy body where the end of the rotor points to, replace dizzy cap and see which lead it lines up with.
that will be your no.1 lead, find the firing order and put the leads back on the dizzy cap in the direction of the rotors rotation, run those leads to the corresponding plugs and it should start.
