Clicking usually indictes a poor connection, weak battery, or worn starter Try removing the battery clamps and cleaning the clamps and posts. Check the negative wire ground connection to the engine. Clean it if necessary and tighten. Replace the battery clamps and try to start. If the clicking continues have your battery and starter tested. Many auto parts stores will test batteries and starters for free. Be sure to remove your negative battery clamp before working with the starter.

When i go to start my 2004 Alero all the gauge lights come on but it won't start. The starter is still good. What could the problem be? Someone suggested that it was the neutral safety switch.

look for security light when you turn on key if it lights and doesn't go off leave key on for ten minutes then turn key off and then try to start

Ignition problems

Check all your fuses..The one for your ignition, which is designated for your starter maybe blown.. But if your fuses or good, you can check an see if you have power to the starter...( test light ) or Probe light.. An when the key is turned and the light lights up, an the car does not start, then you need a starter..

No start

Check for fuel supply and spark availability to cylinders. Must have both that is a good starting point to determine fault.

Our oldsmobile alero wont start seems like not getting fuel

If the security light is flashing when the key is on then it is the passport 2 anti-theft system. You need to turn the key to the on position (one away from cranking it over) and leave it until the light goes out. Then turn the key off, remove it, then try to restart it.

2004 alero

If the security light is flashing when that happens, you need to turn the key to the ON position, and let it sit for 10 minutes, so it can reset the security code. Start it up as normal and let it idle for 5 minutes.
