Locked 2002 toyota avalon on passenger side with key. Than unlocked on driver side with key drove car no problem 20 minutes later went to start car and the alarm went off and the car would not start. I tried both doors with the key and also the remote and same result. Any ideas?

Make sure the valet parking lock in the glove box is not locked. You'll need the master or driver #1 key. If VP is not locked and this happens use the master key and manually lock and then unlock the driver door then try starting the car. And also you have a working remote key unit when this this happens, step back out of the car. if you have passengers have them exit too. Hit the lock bottom wait a couple of seconds hit the unlock button just once. Only you the driver get into the car place key in ignition turn it over Note: if it dings your good if nothing you'll need to keep locking and unlocking until the security light dings.

You would need a can of lubricant such as WD-40. Spray the lubricant on the lock/latch, and try to close the door. Repeat as necessary and watch what happens.
Once the latch begins to operate, dab some clean engine oil to the latch again, this wiould ensure long-life trouble-free operation.
