Bought a used 1995 Toyota Avalon for daughter. Battery unhooked now Stereo locked. Model 16186349. Display shows HELP. Dealership gave me paperwork with unlock code and instructions but cant get it to work and they have no idea. They say buy a new battery. Even if I could get past the first step (Press preset buttons 1,4,6 and then push in power knob, should display SEC, but doesnt. I dont know what I'm doing wrong, the code has a zero in it and I cant figure out which preset button to use. Please help. :)

Just replace it with a aftermarket stereo and dont forget to get both harness for easy diy install.thats what i did and it works fine & the best thing about it is i dont ever need a code again.

Unfortunately in newer vehicles, they sometimes need to have the computer re-flashed IF you unhook the battery with the radio on. It's a crummy deal. The dealership will probably have to re-flash the computer. You could try turning the stereo off, then disconnect the cables on the battery for a minute, then re-connect and POSSIBLY it could reset the system and it may work again. Don't get your hopes up, this may not fix it.
Try unhooking your battery for about ten mins. This might reset your security system. You might also try locking all the doors and then unlocking with the key.
yeah they should be able to unlock the stero /unhooking battery without retreiving codes will lock up stereo . i would tell them get codes or get new stereo

probably the easiest way is to go to your public library and look through their auto repair books and photocopy the page with the instructions/pictures for your particular job.
I found the dealership that my car was originally bought from and called them. They pulled up the code and gave it to me. If you have anything with dealers name it will help. Or maybe honda dealership and give them the vin number so they can pull it up.
