Newer cars are set up to trip this light at the recommended oil change miles. To reset it after an oil change you need a scan tool, or you can disconnect the battery cable ends and hold them together for a minute.
Hello darylcornwel,
It need to be reset each time you change the oil or else it will keep flashing to remind you to change the oil.
The reset procedure:
Turn the key on (engine off).
Within 5 seconds depress the accelerator pedal three times.
The start the engine and the light should be reset.

Have you reset the computer yet?
To reset your computer, use a code reader or simply disconnect the battery for a few minutes. If it comes back, check for error codes. If you don't have a code reader, most local parts stores will red ir for you or rent the reader.
Hope this helps.
It comes on when the computer recognizes that you need a oil change. In older models, they tend to come on for no reason. If the oil is good and you know it doesn't need changed, don't worry about it. A oil changed is recommended at 3000 miles, but I have always went 5000. You car has a sensor that recognizes the oil command. You might be able to get rid of it by taking off the hot side post of the battery. If your not worried and you know the oil is ok, I wouldn't worry about it. Make sure the cap is on tight though. If you have anymore questions, please let me know. I am here to help. Thanks for choosing FixYa.
