Newer cars are set up to trip this light at the recommended oil change miles. To reset it after an oil change you need a scan tool, or you can disconnect the battery cable ends and hold them together for a minute.

Have you reset the computer yet?

To reset your computer, use a code reader or simply disconnect the battery for a few minutes. If it comes back, check for error codes. If you don't have a code reader, most local parts stores will red ir for you or rent the reader.

Hope this helps.

It comes on when the computer recognizes that you need a oil change. In older models, they tend to come on for no reason. If the oil is good and you know it doesn't need changed, don't worry about it. A oil changed is recommended at 3000 miles, but I have always went 5000. You car has a sensor that recognizes the oil command. You might be able to get rid of it by taking off the hot side post of the battery. If your not worried and you know the oil is ok, I wouldn't worry about it. Make sure the cap is on tight though. If you have anymore questions, please let me know. I am here to help. How long can i drive a vehicle when the change oil light come on? 2007 toyota camry 2.4L

Typically, the oil change light comes on when the computer calculates you have 10% oil life left. If your oil level is ok, then you should have the oil changed soon, like within a week or so. If you don't really maintain the car well, I would get it changed right away, like the next day. Here is a video on why not to trust the oil change light.

I have a 97 Chevy Lumina. It has 276,*** miles on it. I bought it used 4 months ago. It was running excellent then the service engine soon light, low coolant light, and change oil soon light started coming...

The fact that the oil was low would not be from the oil pump, but from wear in the engine. If it is not smoking when you start it or as you drive, you can probably keep it running by just keeping the oil level checked at each fuel fill-up. As for the car shutting off, you didn't say if the engine seized or got real hot. A low oil pressure problem should have triggered a warning light before the problem got to the point where you lost the engine.

If the car ran after you added the oil, you got lucky and need to always check it.

How do I reset the computer after changing the oil myself ? The change oil light comes on for about 30 seconds before going out. The motor is a 4.9L. Thank you...

Depress and hold RANGE and FUEL USED buttons until OIL LIFE INDEX appears on DIC display. Depress and hold RANGE and RESET buttons for 5-60 seconds. When OIL CHANGE SOON light flashes 4 times remaining oil life index is reset to 100 percent. If OIL CHANGE SOON comes on and stays on for 5 seconds, display did not reset, and you will have to try again.

Everytime we stop at light the oil light comes on then turns off as soon as gas pedal is pressed

The oil lights come on because there isn't enough oil pressure in the engine... When you come to a red light, the engine is at idle in a lower rpm and there isn't enought oil in your engine to cycle, thus creating low pressure, and the indicator comes on, however when you rev your engine or press the gas pedal, the remaining oil that you have in your engine is being cylce because of higher rpm, thus bypassing the oil sensor. Solution to this, is you need to add oil to the apropriate oil level AS SOON AS POSSIBLE or get a oil change before driving this car any longer as major mechanical issue may occur if you do not get this taken care of. You can buy a quart of oil at walmart or your local gas station and add it and get you by until you get it to the gas station. You may want to constantly keep a eye on the oil level as maybe your engine is burning oil, in order to avoid engine break down.

99 Lumina - had an oil change. change oil soon light is still on. Now engine light is coming on.

If the engine light is on, then I would have an OBD-II Scanner get the codes out of the computer to see what may be causing this error.

The change oil soon light should be reset after changing the oil.

My oil light keeps coming on and i changed my oil and itstill comes on. there are no oil spots unde thecar or puddles of oil .

Several issues could exist:
Faulty light - get computer code reading no code good chance its a light/short
Oil pump low pressure test with external pressure meter
Oil pressure sending unit

Once you determine you have oil pressure is good then its a fair chance you have a bad sending unit otherwise its a bad oil pump. Replacing an oil pump is not hard if you ca get the pan off without lifting the motor, Otherwise this is a big job

I have oil change soon light come on but it wont stay off after i changed the oil.

If it has been reset, but keeps coming on...it can either be replaced, or if you keep track of your own oil changes; you can drop the lower panel which consists of 7mm wrench and unplug it.It will be on the passenger's side under glove box.
