Transmission doesnt work

Hi all, Today I was driving on the hw and heard a grounding noise for less then a second and then everything seemed fine. Later when I went out down the street about two miles I was in line at Mcd's and the car would not move. Nothing worked reverse, dive, low or 2nd. Had to push it to a parking spot where I shut it off. Could smell something but started her up again and I could drive it for only a couple of minutes. It did the same thing. Needless to say, I did the same thing shut it off and cool down and got to work which was only about 50 feet and left it there. I know its the transmission but how can I drive it for a bit and then it drop. Also, do you have an idea of how much this is going to cost me. The car is only 8 yrs old and has only 88000 miles on it. Thanks!

Well, there could be several reasons for this... The first could be that your speedometer cable is broken. That is if your speedometer is cable driven. (Some automobiles are digitally operated.) But, if yours has a cable, A second reason could be that the cable could be kinked in the cable housing. Another reason could be that the cable may have been disconnected from the rear of the dash, also, where the speedometer cable goes down to the transmission, there is a place where the cable attaches to the transmission... There is a small gear inside the transmission, just where the cable attaches to. Sometimes, these little gears wear out, or also break. Also, the teeth on the gear can wear, causing it to slip, thereby, causing your speedometer to not work. That is about all I can think of. I hope this helps you.

Get your VIN number (Vehicle Identification Number) located by the windshield of your car or on your registration certificate and then call a Toyota dealer and he/she can tell you which model of transmission that should be in your car. Then purchase a transmission pan gasket for the model they tell you should be in your car and see if it matches the transmission pan in your car

Hello! I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 4WD with less than 100,000 miles. It has a Vortec 5300 5.3 L V-8. Today if rove it for about 12 miles, parked and left the vehicle for about 4 hrs. When I returned to...

I would be doing the simple checks first . Open the bonnet and check the drive belt on the power steering pump to see if it is good and tensioned as what you describe sounds like a loose / failing belt. If you have a fan that is connected to the water pump grab hold of a blade and see if you can move the unit back and forth ( failed bearings ). Check any other drive belts as well. Check oil level in sump and transmission (if auto) and check water level in radiator at the cap. IT is good if you can get some idea as to what is wrong first so that the dealer cannot put it over you.

Walk away from this truck unless you have a professional look at it to determine the problem. You can spend lost of cash repairing a vehicle today. This truck appears to have multiple problems. I would not risk any real money on this truck as it may be a money pit.

Noise like a siren when speed increases

hey plinio7,
Having been a jag tech for the last two years, this noise could be a million different things.
But If your sure that its not the wheel bearings then this is where i would start.
I had a few cases where the front diff. was making the noise, the best way to fine out if that is the problem is try to get all four tires off the ground. Start it and put it in drive, and put a longer screw drive or pry bar from the case to your ear. If its very lound then that is your problem.
Let me know what you fine thanks

2000 dodge grand caravan 3.3 tranny iisues

Hate to say it but, better get it in to a transmission shop or dealer A.S.A.P. If you have AAA or similar, have it towed. The less you drive it the better, if the damage isn't already done. Sorry.!

Clicking Noise Coming From Under The Hood

Have you checked your belts? A piece of belt may have come off and been slapping under your hood, and then fell off completely. While it was slapping, your computer would have detected the slow down of pulleys etc. and caused your engine light to come on. Then when the piece broke off, everything would be back to normal. Let me know!
