Drivebelt came off while on the highway (about 75 mph). Towed it home, went to replace belt and now both old belt (4 yrs old) and new belt (both 1025) are too long. Put on 1015 belt, topped off anti-freeze and engine cranks but runs hot. Why is specified belt (1025) too long now and what else may be messed up as a result of the belt slipping off?

I think your problem lies with the belt. If you are not putting the belt on correctly then the water pump my not be working need to double check belt routing this might be your problem. check accessory drive belt routing diagram in engine compartment.

Hi, when a belt comes off, it's usually because of a bad bearing in one of the accessories or idler pulleys, or maybe your tensioner spring is broken. Remove the belt and check all pulleys for spin and play. It is also possible you lost an idler pulley and the new belt routing is not turning the water pump in the right direction. Check the routing and look for a missing idler pulley. Let me know if you are missing the routing diagram.

High rpm at highway speed

No idea why you would drive that fast,
but 2800 is about right at that speed

Did you just get the car & never own one that
went to 2800 at that speed

Tap the brake around 55 & see if the rpm goes up,
indicating that torque converter lock-up is working

Don't do that at 70 mph

Car died while driving down the highway

Needs tuning. Also replace fuel and air filters. If that doesn't help then it may need piston ring replacement.

1995 Civc LX M/T SOHC Starting Problem

Well if you did all that stuff all ready, Sounds like your valves are stuck open. Take the head off and take it to a machine shop, should cost about $100 bucks for a complete head job. They will take it apart put new valve stem seals in, clean the head magnaflux the cam and the actual head to check for cracks. It will be like brand new.

Then all you got to do is get new head bolts, make sure you follow your haynes exactly on the re installation of the head. Dont forget a new brand spanking new valve cover gasket and head gasket.
