Sounds like a stuck brake light switch. These can usually be found in 2 places. On most vehicles it is located near the brake pedal under the dash. Look for a switch with a "plunger" that pops out when pedal is pressed. If the plunger is staying in the valve body, it is most likely your culprit. Another place to find the switch is on the brake master cylinder under the hood. In either case, a little WD40 will free it up. The replacement is usually inexpensive if you need to.

Just change your rear light bulbs. 2 filaments per bulb, if one melted and touch the other one, it stay lite.

Break lights stay on when car if off

I had this same problem. I turned off my car and the brake lights stayed on. I looked under the dash and found that the brake pedal, when not pressed, barely touched the brake light switch, which controls whether the brake lights are on or off. Initially though I just wedge a thin piece of adhesive foam between the pedal and switch, which worked fine for several months until I found the time to properly fix it. My brake light switch was adjustable so i eventually adjusted the nuts on each side of the brake switch holding it to the pedal bracket so that the brake pedal pushed in the white brake light switch when released. Hope this helps!

What can be wrong when the ABS light stays on?

You'll need to have the computer scanned for trouble codes, and some code readers will not access body computers.

I have a 1988 c1500 chevy truck and my break lights stop working and notice the stop light fuse was missing just bought truck back from previous owner but when I replace the fuse the break light stays on...

The brake light switch on these trucks was a poor design. Its mounted on the brake pedal. Look under there and bend the bracket that holds the brake light switch slightly and things will start working again. When these were new we used to just grab the brake pedal and pull it toward the drivers seat really hard and let go. This fixed your problem 99% of the time.

Light stays on all the time

Some vehicles have the ABS light come on when it is time to change your breaks. Have a look at them, front and back. Also, check your Brake fluid level and your lines.
